I am so excited to announce that my first workbook is ready to be in your hands (or on your screens)! This project has been a long time coming, and I am proud to finally be able to share this piece of work with folks near and far.

Hitting Refresh: Reflections for Parents of Teenagers is a self-paced, downloadable and printable, 68-page experience that you can return to again and again. You hold so much knowledge within you already, and this workbook is an invitation to acknowledge your current and ever-changing relationship to parenting, and to renew your perspective of this relationship.

In the spirit of asking for help, these are ways you can help and support this work:
1. Purchase a workbook (link in bio)
2. Share about my workbook with friends and family and other community members
3. Venmo me a tip if you want to thank me for any of my content that's been helpful or send me encouragement for this process (-Harris-29)

Much love and gratitude,
Court

P.S. Thank you for your grace as this is my first post “back” after a long break from IG. I’m still enjoying the time away, AND I’ve found so much community here.

Hello friends,

Each week, some new folks subscribe to my email list and others leave. I used to get a bit sad about these unsubscribes; I used to take it personally.

I mean... sometimes/most times I put my heart into these messages and the resources I share. I tend to this community, and quite honestly, it's vulnerable sharing like this.

AND this is actually a natural and beautiful process-- the new connections and the letting gos.

I want this space to be mutually beneficial. I always hope that someone (anyone!) will take something (anything!) away from these messages.

Likewise, I hope that folks who resonate with my work or even feel challenged by my work will engage with and support me in some way, shape, or form. And if this is not the case, it's okay for us to part ways, at least for now.

Life is full of these moments of coming together and drifting apart, and it's okay for us to talk about it in the open.

Here's to trusting the process,

Last Thursday, I started to realize that the upcoming week was looking FULL, for which I am grateful and honored. It’s full of things and people and work that I truly love and value.

And, the layers of grief, the heaviness of moments and people lost, the hard conversations that are unresolved and raw, the loneliness of this time… it’s all weighing on me.

I don’t need to share my laundry list of things on my grief list for you to understand that THIS IS A HARD TIME. I know you know. I know you feel it too.

As I thought about the week ahead, I realized that my capacity would not match the energy required to manage all of it (work + personal life + home life). In other words, the fullness passed the threshold into a place of overwhelm because my capacity and tolerance is low right now. Again, I am guessing this experience may be familiar to you, too.

On the blog this week I talk about how I asked for help + the beauty of community care. (Shout out to the handful of friends who cooked for me this week— I’m sobbing with gratitude!) Link in bio to read!

Hello friends,

Yesterday morning was a rough one due to some interpersonal stuff, and I lost my late morning work time to managing my emotions-- thanks to my mini trampoline, Taylor Swift, and a steady group text with friends. Sometimes it's just like that, right?!

Unexpected stuff happens with the people we love, and it can really throw us off. I hear this from teens and parents I work with on the regular. It happens to me, too. This is part of being human.

Today, I couldn't just sit down at my desk, turn on some music, and get to work. I needed to complete the stress cycle ASAP. This is a process I learned from Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Amelia Nagoski and Emily Nagoski.

Even when we can't complete the stress cycle immediately, it's important that we do this ASAP. The book offers lots of great detail about why and how to release stress. But in short, some of the most effective ways to de-stress include: moving, breathing, laughing, connecting with others, crying, giving/receiving affection with a loved one, and expressing yourself creatively.

If this is resonating, if you're feeling the need to release stress, I invite you to pause and give yourself ~20 minutes to tap into one or more of these tools. (Hint: This is all of us. We all need to do this.) If you can't do it now, plan a time in the next 24 hours when you can. Completing the stress cycle is part of regular or maintenance self-care, AND it can be a tool for emergency self-care.

Breathing and trying to laugh with you,

My colleague wrote a much-needed guest blog for parents of teens and young adults who are preparing to become empty nesters.

"Your child is now a teenager and you have to listen to them cry because someone broke up with them, or patch a hole in the wall because they got mad that they lost their video game. Who could blame those crazy teenage still-developing brains filled with hormones, puberty, and all kinds of chemical changes?

Teenagers… am I right?! Looking back, you can now remember and enjoy the memories from your own teenage years because that’s what life is about.

Just as you finally realize you have it figured out or even if you don’t, your kid is ready for the real world and suddenly, the room is empty. So you find yourself sitting in their room on their twin size bed pushed all the way to the wall with dirty plates on their bookshelf, and you sit there and wonder…..now what?"

Read the rest on the blog. Link in bio, as always!
