One of the problems about caring for people and having integrity, being loyal, honest, and being empathetic to others is that eventually you let your guard down, because you want to believe that others have the same type of authenticity and character as you do. After opening your life to outsiders that act as if they care about you, inevitably the time will come when you are betrayed, and you realize that they never cared about you as a person, they only cared to use you and your resources to better their lives. I realize that we live in an imperfect world and that nobody is perfect. We all have our vices, however knowing this forces us to look for the good in people, and at times accept their bad traits. Unfortunately, people are capable of changing their behavior to fit every situation. They become actors playing a role, and some are very convincing. In the end after getting stabbed in the back by someone that you trusted, you try to convince yourself that it was not your fault. What happens is that you stop trusting people all together because of these bad experiences. The once happy go lucky “the world is an awesome place” type of person has now become jaded, calloused and scarred, and that positive energy that once emitted from them ceases to shine. So, in all essence, these side-stepping liars and thieves not only crush your ability to smile and enjoy life, but you leave behind a path of negativity filled with the threat that you may inadvertently put yourself in harm’s way once again just by reaching out to others. Negative thoughts, feelings, and insecurity replaces what was once empowering and delightful about life, like sharing, feeling comfortable, being carefree, having a loving relationship and taking care of things. I guess we can only hope that karma makes things right eventually. Because being penalized in your life and suffering from negative consequences for doing something right throws of the balance of nature, deters future help for others, and causes us to have to reflect on why this happened. In the end we might feel that distancing ourselves from everyone may be the solution to prevent being victimized by wolves once again. So, the cycle begins again, and again, and again. And again!
