🌟 MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: Ashley Byrd!

As we count down to National Family Health & Fitness Day on September 26, we’re introducing you to the instructors behind our fitness classes!

Ashley teaches PiYo, a class she first discovered at her hometown YMCA in 2017. She loved the physical and mental challenge so much that when the instructor left, Ashley got certified and took over!

A preschool teacher and mom of three, Ashley says PiYo gives her a chance to hit pause and focus on just one thing—the mat!

Ashley is also a certified water safety instructor and lifeguard, coaching the Barracudas Swim Team and working as a lifeguard during the summer.

Her favorite way to stay active? Walking 3-4 miles per day—she uses the time to catch up on a phone call, listen to an audiobook or podcast, or enjoy some quiet time.

Want to give PiYo a try? Join Ashley for a FREE class Saturday, September 26 at 8:30AM! 💪

Did you know? According to the National Recreation & Park Association, the average cost recovery for parks and recreation organizations in 2025 was 29.5%.

BCRC’s 2025 cost recovery was 102%—more than three times the national average!

Why does that matter? Because being good stewards of our resources helps us keep programs affordable, keep free programs free, and make recreation accessible to everyone in Baldwin City.

It’s one more way we work to make the most of every resource and provide the most opportunities for our community.

Hoop, there it is! 🏀

NEW for fall 2026: BCRC is double-teaming our basketball options with the addition of a competitive basketball league!

Unlike recreational basketball, competitive basketball offers team registration—perfect for coaches and players ready to take their game to the next level and build team chemistry along the way.

Four divisions are available, split by age (3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade) and gender, with teams from across the area welcome to join. All games will be played on weekends in Baldwin City.

Ready to hoop? Register now at baldwinrec.org.
