Conquer Strength & Conditioning will be a Maryland based gym for athletes & people who want to train like athletes. We are pushing for a 2015 Opening Date.

At Conquer Strength & Conditioning our passion is to promote fitness and a overall healthy & active lifestyle. You do not have to start this journey alone. We will have workout videos, technique videos, nutrition advice, as well as inspirational content. We will keep our fitness community updated on all local upcoming fitness activities as well as the progress were making towards getting our very own training facility off the ground. Just finished up a really cool session with a mother and daughter from Germany. The daughter is here on vacation from Germany where she is a police officer, both were BEAST! today. Before our workout they both just finished up a 30 min resistance band class and then a 1 hour long body pump class!!! HOW BAD YOU WANT IT????!!!!

Jason Selk is the author of a best selling sports psychology book entitled "10 Minute Toughness". He has worked with top athletes and Fortune 500 company executives in the realm of developing a much overlooked aspect of human behavior mental toughness. We know what foods to eat to lose a few pounds, we know how much weight to put on muscle, but how do your give a person mental toughness??? How do you keep them from that slice of chocolate cake on the kitchen counter at midnight ?? How do you keep them from hitting the snooze button on a 23 degree winter morning and waiting 10 mins for their freezing car to warm up just to go to the gym and torture themselves?? I have not got a chance to read his book I only know him from a lecture he gave but I would assume much like dieting, and working out it doesn't happen all overnight. Small daily victories that get you to your big goal, for example waking up 6am for a week but not going to the gym, then next week waking up at 6am doing a few push ups, sit-ups, etc, until your body is use to being up that early and performing, then the following week make a push to get up at 6am (since your already use to getting up now anyway) and get to the gym and since your body is use to performing once you get there you will be ready to workout....sometimes mental toughness is forged when you just decide you are tired of losing or being a loser, when you are tired of being the nail and are ready to be the hammer, when you don't like how you look in pics anymore or that you can't fit any of your clothes....when the pain of regret exceeds the pain of discipline.....lastly don't be too hard on yourself there will be set backs but remember 3 steps forward and 2 steps backwards is still 1 step forward.

Breakfast this morning.....Double the protein of regular yogurt with half the carbohydrates Greek yogurt is a really good on the go OMG I have 15 mins to get to work, rushing out the house snack or in between meals for hunger relief. I would just caution that if you are calcium deficient Greek yogurt still has a sufficient serving of calcium but it usually tends to be less than regular yogurt.

You have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable, human beings have a genetic predisposition to seek comfort to seek shelter to be accepted, Maslow's hierarchy of needs right type stuff right? Well that very predisposition is one of the very things that keeps us from taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work, going for that run even though it's raining a little, or working out at the gym even though we feel people might be judging us. It's like that kid in class that doesn't understand the lesson but is afraid to raise his hand for fear of looking dumb, for that brief second he enjoys the security of not being ridiculed and the comfort of being accepted but on exam day he pays dearly for his unwillingness to be uncomfortable. Focus on being ready for exam day because can't NOBODY take that test with you!!!

One of the great things about social media is the fact that you can share cool things you find with a lot of people. One of my followers actually introduce me to this app and I have recommend it to a few of my clients as well. The Lose It! app allows you to program in body specifics like your height, weight, age, along with your goal weight to program a comprehensive nutrition plan complete with daily calorie budget to help you turn your fitness goal into a reality. It beats carrying around a bulky food journal plus you always have your phone in your hands anyway! Lose It! app has an extensive list of brand name food items you can search from and it also allows you to search nearby restaurants and pull up their menus to take the guess work out of calorie counting when you eat out. You can even scan bar codes of food items and Lose It! App will insert that items nutritional data into it's own database!! Not to mention it's FREE!!!

There is a book by an author named Malcolm Gladwell entitled "Outliers". It is essentially an in depth look into why certain people succeed or stand out amongst their peers. For example there were many basketball players with an equal skill set to Michael Jordan but why did he set himself apart, there were computer companies before Bill Gates but what was it about his vision that changed the world?? I'am a big fan of autobiographies and documentaries and there is almost always a point were protagonist faced one or several moments were they could have and even should have given up. Those moments are "Filter" moments, I say filter because the challenge or obstacle is so great that the average person who is UNWILLING to fight tooth and nail for it will gracefully bow out effectively filtering themselves out. Well those who are outliers feel that same despair, they may have even considered given up but for whatever reason they make it through these "Filter" moments in life were they were willing to do things that most people were UNWILLING to do. I place emphasis on the word unwilling because it's not a negative word it's just that you made up your mind that what you want is not important enough in relation to the work you have to do to get there and that is as honest assessment, you may find something you actually want to do. For those chosen few though the outliers, they have made their home in doubt, worry, and despair and are comfortable much like a captain who has navigated his ship through rough seas to calm shores countless times before.

Before pursuing my passion of becoming a trainer/strength & conditioning coach I was a nursing major with the hope of eventually getting into med school. One day during clinical while walking the hallway of our oncology unit and looking into room after room of patients who were morbidly obese, diabetic, and suffered from a host of cardiovascular issues that exacerbated their cancerous conditions I realized that at this point it's almost too late. I wanted to do something, I wanted to proactively affect change through diet & exercise, rather than reactively throw medicine at symptoms. Water, exercise, & veggies beats needles, pills and IV's ANYDAY!!!

Sounds cliche but "Never stop learning" and more importantly never be above learning from anybody you can. Thanks to the internet I'm always reading peer reviewed articles or watching videos as well as talking to guys who are just dropping knowledge bomb after knowledge bomb with no idea who it will reach and help. Which caused me to adopt that same ethic when sharing my thoughts and ideas, I don't own any of this!! It's for the consumption of whoever it can help. If a post gets 1 like or 1 million likes that 1 person may take that idea or concept and use it to better himself, effectively bettering the life of those around him and so on and so on. The end goal when training people (and it sounds counter productive) is to get a person to a point where they no longer need you, if they hang around great! maybe they stay for motivation or they really really like your cologne. The goal is to create more leaders if you can explain my training methodology to your friends and show them a few workouts that can help them then I did my job explaining it to you (but please still give them my card). All students eventually graduate, if Timmy from Mrs. Smith's 5th grade algebra class is 30 and still having trouble solving for "X" there is a problem.
