Excited to welcome NW Flamenco Academy -
Northwest Flamenco Academy was formed in 2024 by three flamenco dancers Amelia Moore, Eve Salonen and Jackie MacLin, from their collective desire to provide a place for the flamenco arts to be nurtured and celebrated in the Seattle area. Students studying in the academy will benefit from versatile studies in a rich cultural environment, offered and taught by the founding maestras and visiting flamenco artists. The academy provides studies in flamenco dance for all levels, as well as flamenco guitar and flamenco singing/cante.

‼️ COMING SOON ‼️ Presenting the up and coming artists of Northwest Flamenco Academy’s Tablao Program for one night only in a display of flamenco soul and magic!

In NWFA’s Tablao Program, dancers and guitarist students study the ins and outs of the dyamic onstage communication between dancer, guitarist, singer and palmas. This fluid and spontaneous conversation between the artists onstage allows for each artist to express themselves fully and is the heart and soul of flamenco. In this performance, the guitar and dance students from NWFA’s Tablao Program will be joined by guitarists Jed Miley and Sebastian Quintero, singer Erin Lau, and the palmas of Amelia Moore, Eve Salonen, and Jackie Maclin along with Gordon Assadi on violin and palmas.

Don’t miss this chance to see what NWFA’s Tablao students have created together, in a live showcase of talent and passion!

Flamenco Fun Facts 4: Did you know… that there are many forms of Flamenco?

Flamenco was introduced to the international scene thanks to the efforts of Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura, who directed works like “Tango,” “Salomé,” and “I, Don Giovanni.”

Saura flamenco movies include his trilogy “Bodas de Sangre,” “Carmen,” and “El Amor Brujo” as well as several more contemporary films like “Flamenco,” “Sevillanas,” and “Flamenco, Flamenco.”

Throughout his flamenco-centric works, Saura demonstrated the dimensions of flamenco as an expandable performance art through his ingenious choreographic direction, making the art more accessible to audiences outside Spain.

Flamenco Fun Facts 4: Did you know… that there are many forms of Flamenco?

Flamenco has many styles or forms, called palos. In Spanish, the word “palo” is defined as “stick” or “branch,” which in relation to flamenco means a palo is a branch of the flamenco “tree.”

Many palos are offshoots of other palos. In the flamenco tree, the main branches allude to the major categories of palos, such as Soleares, Cantiñas, Tangos, and more. The smaller branches depict the various rhythms belonging to each category.

Visualizing flamenco styles as a tree can help in understanding the different influences that have marked and developed the flamenco arts, as one can see how each palo formed out of another!
