This month North Cascades’ rivers and streams presents "Spawn of the Dead!"
After returning to rivers to spawn, Pacific salmon stop eating and quickly begin to rapidly age and die, a process known as spawning out. The fish begin to rot while still alive and with missing eyes and other chunks, become the living dead! Yep, they become zombie salmon! Good news for everyone though, instead of turning other fish and anglers into the undead as well, zombie salmon are an important part of the ecosystem and are a vital winter food source for scavengers like bald eagles.
Check out spawning salmon right now in rivers throughout the park complex.

☁️ There's nothing like a foggy day on the Skagit.. ☁️

One of the main rivers that we operate on is the Skagit River in the North Cascades. While this river offers a beauty that is hard to find elsewhere, it has a lot more to offer than just its looks.
The Skagit is widely known as one of the most important river systems for salmon spawning in the Pacific Northwest. Every year, several species of salmon travel up the river to spawn. The salmon are a key part of the ecosystem, providing food for many mammals and bird species in the area.
Since day one, we have seen the importance of teaching both our guides and our guests how to care for the rivers we run. It is our commitment to leave the river better than how we found it, and we hope you will all choose to do the same. For more information on what exactly we’re doing to reduce our impact in the PNW, please visit our website.
Feel free to message us for more information.
