⚡️🏈 GAME RECAP | Week 1 🏈⚡️

The Storm opened the 2026 season by doing exactly what their name promises - rolling in, bringing the pressure, and shutting the Sehome out.

After a scoreless first quarter, Maddox Strickland broke through on the first play of the second with a tough 10-yard touchdown run, putting Squalicum on the board and setting the tone.

From there, the Storm kept grinding.

Special teams started with crisp, consistent snaps from long snapper Ely Chavez, followed by kicker Elias Larranaga drilling field goals from 24 and 31 yards to help send Squalicum into halftime with a 13-0 lead.

But one of the biggest stories of the night was the debut of a completely different Storm offense.

After years of running the spread, Coach Lucey and his staff rolled out an old-school wishbone attack — and the boys bought in.

Squalicum piled up 280 rushing yards, using multiple weapons out of the backfield and keeping Sehome guessing. Tucker Hofstedt ripped off a huge 32-yard run, Strickland finished with 80 rushing yards, including an explosive 57-yard burst, and quarterback Asher Asbjornsen provided one of the plays of the night when he broke loose for a 68-yard touchdown run.

And the Storm weren’t finished.

Strickland’s 57-yard run helped set up Asbjornsen again, this time punching it in from one yard out to put the game away.

While the offense was pounding the ground, the Storm defense was absolutely relentless.

Sehome found opportunities to move the ball, but every time the Mariners threatened, Squalicum slammed the door.

The Storm defense brought pressure all night, with sacks credited to Brock Scammell, Maddox Strickland, Tucker Hofstedt and Carlos Solis-Cruz, while the entire unit battled together to preserve the shutout.

The victory snapped Sehome’s four-game winning streak in the series and gave Squalicum its first win over Sehome in five years, while opening the season with an important Northwest Conference victory.

⚡️🏈 FUELED UP & READY TO BRING THE THUNDER! 🏈⚡️

Our first Storm Team Dinner is in the books, and what a great way to kick off game week!

A night full of good food, helmet decals, laughs, teammates, and plenty of Storm energy as our boys get ready to take the field for GAME 1.

A HUGE thank you to all of our Storm parents and families who helped make tonight happen — from bringing delicious dishes to helping set up, serve, and pull everything together. It truly takes a village to feed this crew, and you showed up in a big way!

And compliments to our very own footballer + photographer, Ian Bates 📸, for capturing the night for us!

Bellies full. Helmets ready. Team together.

⚡ FALL SPORTS PARENTS — WE WANT TO SEE YOU THERE! ⚡

Please join us for Fall Sports Parent Night on Tuesday, September 1st at 7:00 PM in the Squalicum Forum!

Whether this is your athlete’s first high school season or you’ve been part of Storm athletics for years, this is a valuable night for every family.

We’ll begin together in the Forum, where parents will have the opportunity to meet our Athletic Director, Patrick Brown, hear important information about Squalicum athletics, and learn more about what families can expect throughout the season.

After approximately 15–20 minutes, each sport will break out into its own parent meeting with your athlete’s coach/coaching staff. This is your chance to:

Meet the people coaching and supporting your athlete
Learn about the team’s expectations, communication, schedules and season plans
Hear about upcoming events, traditions, volunteer needs and opportunities
Ask questions directly and make sure you know where to find important information throughout the season
Connect with other families in your athlete’s program

And just as importantly — come learn about your team’s PAAC! 💙

Our Parent Athletic/Activity Committees (PAACs) are parent-led groups under the Squalicum PTSA that work alongside our coaches to support the things that help make each program and season special. PAAC parents may help coordinate things such as team meals, fundraising, senior celebrations, banquets, photos, special events and other team needs that aren’t covered through the school or ASB.

You do not need previous experience to help. Sometimes joining PAAC simply means lending a hand when you can. Other teams may be looking for parents willing to step into leadership roles. The more families who participate, the easier it is to share the work — and the stronger the support surrounding our coaches and athletes.

Parent involvement truly matters. When families are informed, connected and engaged, it creates a stronger experience for everyone involved — especially our students.

🏆 FALL SPORTS:
Soccer • Tennis • Cross Country • Swim & Dive • Football • Cheer • Slow-Pitch • Dance • Volleyball

📅 Tuesday, September 1st
⏰ 7:00 PM
📍 Squalicum High School — Forum
➡️ Individual sport breakout meetings to follow
Classroom locations will be shared soon.

Come meet your Storm community, meet your coaches, ask questions, get connected and find out how you can be part of supporting an incredible season.

A HUGE THANK YOU to our Storm Football PAAC sponsors! ⚡️

We are incredibly grateful for the local businesses who have stepped up to support our players, coaches, and football program this season. Their generosity helps us provide experiences and support for our teams that wouldn’t be possible without our community behind us. 💙🏈

And this is just the beginning! Throughout the season, we’ll be spotlighting our sponsors individually and sharing more about these amazing local businesses and the people behind them.

In the meantime, we’d love for our Storm families and followers to find their social media pages, give them a like and follow, and most importantly, support these businesses whenever you can. One of the best ways we can thank the businesses that support our players is by supporting them right back.

We can’t wait to share more about each of them as the season goes on.

Thank you for being part of the STORM! ⚡️💙

We still have a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available. If you own a business—or know a local business that would like to support our players while receiving recognition throughout the season—we would love to welcome them as a Storm Football sponsor. Please contact me for sponsorship information and available opportunities.
