It Takes a Village for a Parade 06/11/2015

"Tradition and history, that’s what Old Miners Days is all about. Since 1949, Big Bear’s Old Miners Days has celebrated Big Bear Valley history spotlighting the local version of the California Gold Rush and pioneer days. The Old Miners Days Heritage Parade is the longest-running community event in Big Bear Valley. The 2015 theme of the summer-long festival is “Prospecting for Gold in the Heart of our Community.”

The Old Miners Days Heritage Parade kicks off the celebration at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, with a march through the Village area of Big Bear Lake. State Assemblyman and Big Bear resident Jay Obernolte is the parade’s grand marshal. Dick Kun is the Old Miners Days golden grand marshal..."

It Takes a Village for a Parade Stop by Murray’s Saloon & Eatery around noon for hot dogs, hamburgers or a barbecue brisket sandwich. There will be plenty of good ol’ heel-clicking fun with live entertainment from Kenny Marquez, Duke Michaels and Mike Early.

The Big Bear Old Miners Association annual Parade will travel through the Big Bear Lake Village beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13. You can view the parade from anywhere along Village Drive starting at the Elks Lodge and going to Pine Knot Avenue, and along Pine Knot Avenue from Village Drive to Stone Road.

The parade will last about 45 minutes.

And the fun is not over when the parade ends.

Nonprofit association, the Big Bear Old Miners, is hosting at Fundraiser to underwrite future events such as Miss Clementine and the annual Chili Cookoff at Murray’s Saloon and Eatery beginning at just after noon.

Big Bear Lake, CA – One of the first jobs Old Miners President Richard Millener (Millener Productions) is tackling is raising funds to support the Big Bear Heritage Parade (June 13) and the Chili Cook-Off (July 11). Millener has scheduled a Taco Day at Sonora Cantina on Monday, April 13, from, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Taco ’bout a great day,” one Old Miners volunteer stated while sampling a taco at Sonora Cantina at 41144 Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear Lake.

Old Miners First Vice President Henry Moreno, Second Vice President Mike Copley and Treasurer Radha Khalsa are expected to be on hand to provide information about Old Miners Days.
