To get a black belt in jiu jitsu is a great honor. It is believed that it is the hardest black belt to get in martial arts. It can take 8-12 years for someone who consistently trains. Being a black belt is more than just having top level jiu jitsu skills, it is also having great moral and personal characteristics that exemplify the important and magnitude of this arts highest honor.
The responsibility of a black belt is often considered stewards of the art, responsible for preserving techniques, mentoring students, and fostering a positive, respectful community. While doing this a black belt focuses on refining basic techniques and developing a personalized style.
It is the great pleasure of Gracie Barra Twin Cities, IL to introduce the newest black belt, Professor Pat. Pat is one of a kind, his ability to teach jiu jitsu is a GBTC favorite. He is a pillar of the school and we are so honored to be able to watch him reach this level of his jiu jitsu.
Getting a black belt is often not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a new journey. We are so excited to watch Professor Pat venture through this new milestone.
A special thank you to Professor Pat’s wife, son and parents for being able to be there for the event. The emotion of the entire family really speaks volumes on how jiu jitsu has affected their lives.
