Miller Chill Cyclocross Race

The rumors are true! 2017 was the last year for Miller Chill Cyclocross. We had five good years of CX'ing at Miller Park! Increasing Pavilion rental fees, decreasing participation numbers, and inability to identify a new race director actually made this decision fairly easy. Race director Chris Sweet has always been involved with the Furrow Euro race and now the two events will combine forces for an even better experience at Furrow Farm (see below!). Furrow will take over the Miller Chill race date, thereby moving off the same race date as the Furrow XC run. There are many advantages of focusing on the Furrow venue not the least of which is that we have great flexibility in when we set-up and tear down the course. No rental fees is another big perk!

Let me offer one last round of thanks to all the Miller Chill volunteers, sponsors, and participants! Thanks once again for supporting downstate cyclocross!

Some thank-you's are in order. It is no exaggeration to say we couldn't host this race without the support of our sponsors. Bloomington Cycle & Fitness has always been the presenting sponsor for this race. They've supported the race financially and with gobs of volunteer hours over the years. I'm grateful that all the local shops recognize the value of having local cycling events. Vitesse Cycle and Wilson Cycle Sales & Service were both sponsors of this year's event. Kulb, Chalian, & Leak Urology, LTD, RST Rentals, The Lucca Grill and the Bloomington-Normal Sports Commission were also sponsors this year. Gerrit Sinclair and Chris Daniels both put lots of hours into the flyover and the race course. Turns out they are also good at a new game we like to call podium find and go seek! Rick Lindquist coordinated the announcing set-up and other duties as assigned. Michael Gorman has a slick registration system that allowed us to get all the results up within 30 minutes of the last race. Ryan Edwards Bertrand did all the behind-the-scenes work for the HICX series, helped with registration and the Lucca post-race volunteer party. My dad, Larry Sweet branded all the awards for this years event and helped with flyover construction. My wife, Cara Fiorello Sweet held down the fort all the days I was away and did all sorts of odd jobs on race day. Last, but certainly not least, many members of the Bloomington Cycle and Fitness Race came together for our fastest and smoothest set-up and tear-down yet! Thanks again! (photo credit Robert Clark)

You won't find a better family friendly cyclocross race than Miller Chill! Family members can easily watch most of the race course including start/finish from the comfort of Miller Pavilion. When you are done racing take the kids next door to the Miller Park Zoo! SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!

Even though the temps will be frigid, you won't find a better late-season CX venue for kids. Miller Park Zoo is right next to the course and will be open 9:30-4:30PM. At 2pm they have a program called: "Can Reindeer Fly?" Family can also watch quite a bit of the cross course (including start/finish) from inside the heated pavilion!

Anyone who volunteers in any capacity is welcome to come to the post-race volunteer party at race sponsor, The Lucca Grill 5:30pm on Sunday. Free pizza, drinks are on you!
