Lynn University Debate

This summer, our Lynn Debate traveled to Rwanda with Dreamers Academy Camp, a program dedicated to helping students develop their debate skills. We advised and mentored in the advanced camp, which selects members to represent Rwanda internationally in Kenya next summer. Between debates and cultural visits, it was an incredible experience full of learning, growth, and lifelong memories.

Lynn Debate wins divisional State Championship!

Lynn Debate traveled to Orlando for the FIFA State Championships hosted at University of Central Florida. We performed well across all forms of debate on offer, leading to Lynn being recognized as the top team overall in the limited entry division!

Lynn Debaters had some great performances at the state championships: Team Captain Renee Barrett advanced to the finals of Lincoln Douglas debate, the best performance from a Lynn debater in this format. Along with her partner, Gianlucca Lima, she advanced to the semifinals of British Parliamentary debate as well. She placed 6th overall for the “Citrus Debater Award” given to the best debater across all formats of debate. Drew Ironshield was 3rd speaker in LD; Kaylynn Diebold was 6th in BP. Assistant Coach and alum surprised us in person to run tab at our tournament. He just flew in to help! We are honored to have an alumni group who stay involved from volunteer judging and helping prep to coming back to campus for events. ✈️

When Coach writes the finals motion, it is philosophical. Lynn hosts today the Gold Coast Debates including FSU, SEU, FAU, and Miami. For some reason college basketball fans are talking about this matchup across the country!

🏆 Lynn wins state championships in NPDA and BP debate! 🏆 Congrats NPDA champs Jonah Cole and Jonas D’Souza. Lynn wins state championships in BP, 1st place to Jonah and Jonas, 2nd place to Matt Bilello and Joey Mansour! This is the third time BP has been offered at states and the third time Lynn has won it!

Jonah won the top overall debater award, the Citrus Award, in its inaugural year. Jonas got 4th. Joey was the top speaker in BP; Jonas got 5th. Maxwell Hackner and Tal Argov broke to quarters in NPDA as novices! Renee Barrett got 4th speaker in LD, Joey got 5th, and Jonah 6th. Jonah made semifinals. Renee, Max made octafinals in IPDA; Jonah made it to quarters and 3rd speaker in IPDA.

Lynn overall was 2nd in debate sweepstakes and 4th in overall sweeps! A really great state tournament with many awards brought home!

Lynn Debate competes in the FL state championship FIFA 2023 this weekend. In NPDA we broke .that.j.cole and to finals, with awards announcing the winner on Sunday after BP rounds happen. We have seven debaters preparing and clashing this weekend in issues of policy and political philosophy using rhetoric and persuasion. Go fight win!

Congratulations Quarterfinalists .that.j.cole and at the Vanderbilt BP Tournament! Out of 60 teams from all over the nation, from greatly competitive schools, this is an impressive accomplishment!
