Trek for Trikes

Trek for Trikes

Are we on rain or shine?
Ashlynn is loving her new bike! Thank you Trek for Trikes!
A big thank you to Holly LeighShuler, Dee Dee Ann Blakemore, and the many volunteers who made this day possible! So grateful for such a blessing to all these sweet kids and families!
I was just thinking the other day about getting my son a big tricycle. But I'm not sure where to go to purchase one. Can you maybe give me some information? Thank you so much.
Curious about info for this. My 14 year old would like to participate in a duathalon this spring and I am trying to find a good one where the proceeds go to a good cause and is also a safe, not super competitive race for him. He is an athlete but this will be his first duathalon and riding a bike on the highway is something new for him. We are from mid-missouri and don't know much about what this race has to offer, ages and if it would be an acceptable race for him or not.
Hi whens your guys next big ride
Travis Petersen Trek for Trikes
I just wanted to take a minute to say "Thank You" for all that you do. The kids and I had a great time today. We loved being able to see all the kids receive their bikes. It's an amazing thing that you are doing to help so many families! Congratulations on a job well done!!! :)
Can I get some details on this?

Trike delivery! Due to the supply chain issues Shianne has been waiting almost a year for her trike and was so happy to receive it today! She also gave us one she had outgrown that we will be giving away at Trek for Trikes this year!

I did a count; since our first race in 2015 we have given away 66 trikes! Most have been picked up in Bolivar at Trek for Trikes events. Some have been delivered to Kansas City, Jefferson City, Branson, and Springfield. One was even picked up in Bolivar by a father who drove from St. Louis where his son was having surgery so they could take it back overseas with them when he was released from the hospital. In addition to the 66 that have been given away, a few families have chosen to pay for trikes we ordered for them, and several trikes have been returned, re-outfitted to meet a new recipient’s needs, and donated again.
If your child has received a trike from us in the past, consider coming to ride with us at Trek for Trikes this year. If they have outgrown their trike, consider donating it back so we can pass it along to another child. We’ll also order your child a new one!

It is lightly raining now and looks like it will continue until 10, so we are pushing our start time back one hour. Registration will be from 9:15-9:45 and the race will start at 10. If this causes you to be unable to attend, please request a refund and we apologize!

It seems like we have a chance for rain every year and it hasn’t gotten us yet. At this point we plan for Trek for Trikes to happen as scheduled.

Trek for Trikes is a collaboration of therapists from all over southwest Missouri. We (Bolivar AMBUCS) accept trike requests from many therapy clinics and schools in the area in addition to requests from individuals who find us while looking for a trike for their child! Therapists often attend and volunteer with us. Race day is not possible without their help. Over the last few years we’ve had physical and occupational therapists from Motor Monkeys, CMH, Mercy, Cox, Dynamic Strides, Nixa Public schools, and the Springfield school system, all working together to get trikes for our kids!

Trek for Trikes doesn’t happen without volunteers! We’d like to thank our over 30 SBU PT students who worked putting trikes together in the weeks leading up to race day, prepped signs for race day, thought outside the box to make each trike work for each kid on race day, directed our race route, put out and picked up signs, ran registration, organized, sorted, and gave out t-shirts, and more! Thank you SBU Physical Therapy

Some of the high school students that helped us assemble trikes this year!

Trek for Trikes
Gavin Fortner and Calvin Smith of the Walnut Grove FFA worked very hard to assemble two bicycles to be given to special needs kids during the annual trek for trikes event in Bolivar Missouri . The event will be held on Saturday, August 29 in bolivar Missouri. This year 13 bikes are to be given away.

And I have to add a special thank you to Mission Chapel Baptist church VBS; the kids and families gave their VBS offering to us, purchasing the last trike on our list!!!

Our community has been good to us! This year trying to ask for money in March at the start of shutdowns was worrisome. We got several “no” responses from previous sponsors that were not able to give this year because of the insecurity of the months ahead. We had seven trike requests and very few sponsors (and a trike that I had purchased for someone in the winter that we actually still hadn’t paid for...). I thought we were only going to be able to get four trikes. Then more trikes requests came in...up to 13 trikes being requested this year and I was thinking we were going to be saying no to so many children! We started looking for families who may have outgrown their trikes that would like to give them back, and fortunately found two trikes that were nearly perfect matches for two of our requests, then two more trikes came in without me asking, which required us to only buy a few parts to make them work. When we ask for sponsorships we give a deadline of the end of April so that we know how many trikes we can afford to order, and order them in time for Trek for Trikes. Even though that deadline is long past, donations have continued to show up, even from businesses I don’t recall asking! I haven’t asked since March, but people are still giving. I did the numbers again today, and it looks like we will be able to provide ALL 13 trikes! Thank you so much!!!
