On The Fly Guides

COLORADO: Back in Vail for another Summer!

Lower Roaring Fork:
CFS 1080 9 out of 10 Clarity: Great

The Fork is exceptional this time
of year and this season is no different. Drakes, Sallies and PMD's OH
MY! Soft Hackles, Princes, Sallies and Golden Stones, Girdles act as
your weight; Red Copper John's, Halfback PMD's, STD's, BLM's, and PT's
are your realistic patterns and suspend under a large hopper style
pattern. Call in sick, then call Will Sands at Taylor Creek Fly Shop
(www.taylorcreek.com) for more info.

Upper Colorado River:
CFS 803 LOW 7 out of 10 Clarity: Great

Running a bit lower than
normal, we've been seeing bigger fish over the past 3 weeks. Streamers
and deep nymphing have produced the best results with the dry bite
picking up every day. Foam cicadas in black, natural (I know right)
ThingamaHoppers, Chernobyl Ants in orange and natural colors on the
top, some 5x tippet connecting everything down to meatier BH SH PT's,
Hare's Ear's, Prince's etc etc. Top it off with a realistic, smaller
point fly like a size 20-22 RS2 in gray, Fire Bug brand size 18 zebra
midges in a variety of colors, Barr's emergers size 18-22 or even a
Micro May in 18-22.

Eagle River: CFS 225 LOW

MIDGES ARE HERE! 'Nuff said about that. The annual midge emergence is
on along the entire upper Eagle, midge souffle, scrambled midge,
popcorn midge, pickled midge....but I digress. Patterns: 1. Midges
2. Midges 3. Midges Seriously: 18-22 UV Midges in green, gray,
black; 18-22 RS2's in gray, black and natural (tie some in green if you
want hint hint hint ;) Rojo Midges size 18-22 green. For a different
bite, short line nymph pocketwater with your midge patterns suspended
by a low riding caddis or hopper imitation, these fish will surprise
you on top! We've been seeing the most active bite in years this
season with larger browns JUMPING while being fought and RISING more
than in previous seasons.

Homestake Creek:

Homestake Creek is in blue sky mode, general attractor dries like PMX
and Elk Hair Stimi's tethered to Nate Reynold's NS2's and soft hackles
PTs, red or Fire Bug brand zebra midges in green, red, orange and black
with a purple bead.

To book a trip contact Capt. Jeff Cooke at
231-740-5297 or e-mail at [email protected]. Jeff is currently
in Vail, CO guiding for Gore Creek Fly Fisherman
(www.gorecreekflyfisherman), the premier fly shop/guide outfitter in
the valley. You can also book Jeff by contacting the fly shop
directly: 970-479-7407

ALASKA: Captain Chad Betts is
spending his Summer season in AK. Keep tabs with Chad at
www.bettsguideservice.com. He will continue to post ginormous King
Salmon pics, grip and grin shots with trophy Brown and Black Bear
(hopefully he's the one gripping AND grinning) and grayling like we
used to have on the Muskegon. For more info on the lodge Chad is with
checkout http://www.fishhuntalaska.com.

you're into trolling the big lake, then it's time to get your float
on! Capt. Kyle Buck of Great Lakes Guide Service
(www.glguideservice.com) has been lighting it up on Salmon charters,
give him a call at 231-638-5752 and tell him we sent you.

FLORIDA: Look no further for a saltwater fix if you're in the panhandle region, stop by the Orvis Shop in San Destin (www.orvis.com/sandestin) and
talk to Jason, he'll get you up to date on the latest fishing reports
and gear. No doubt he'll direct you to the guides at Shallow Water

Just check out
their website, the proof's in the film. Falsies, Tarpon and Reds are
the current fare and it's on right now. Book with them at
www.shallowwaterexpeditions.com and make sure you reserve early, they
are highly sought after saltwater guides.

Captain Gjuro Bruer
(www.gbfishingcompany.com) is travelling the planet in search of
adventure and a rising tide. When June rolls around, this is the man
to see for large migratory Tarpon in the Gulf of Mexico from the
panhandle down to the keys. A founding member of the ShallowWater
Expeditions crew, he's now running trips in the panhandle region of
Florida and will transition to the Biloxi Marsh area for trophy reds
come Fall. For in depth information, go to the source:

Captain Pier Molito
(www.fishingadventurecharters.com) is working larger migratory tarpon
and flats species, as well as skinny mangrove water out of the Miami
area. He can also run you out to the Bahamas in the Contender and sight
cast to sunning sails....run down to the keys in the Hells Bay....or
explore mangrove networks in and around Mosquito Lagoon and be the
first angler to shake hands with linebacker linesiders and goliath

INTERNATIONAL: For current information on

Saltwater Trips Wading
a saltwater flat in warm sunshine just off a tropical island in the
winter is enough said. MEXICO and CUBA and BELIZE have been the
favorite saltwater destinations for Cookie for several reasons. These locations are known for plentiful bonefish and year round resident
permit and tarpon. Mexico is relatively easy to get to from the States
plus the local people are friendly and welcoming. Mexico is a great
location for trout folks to get a solid introduction into saltwater fly
fishing. For more experienced saltwater anglers, Cuba offers a
plethora of sight casting opportunities for bones and is a year-round
permit and tarpon fishery. Belize is the place to find your fish of a
lifetime. The supermodel of all species, the Permit, has been sought
after by generations of fly anglers looking for answers, frustration,
satisfaction and fulfillment. More to come soon.....

On The Fly Guides COLORADO: Back in Vail for another Summer, looking forward to some great fishing in the Vail and Roaring Fork Valleys.
