In the wake of Winter Storm Fern, the needs of many of our The University of Mississippi - Ole Miss students are dire. Today our board held an emergency vote to use funds we raised this year to donate to Rebel Relief Disaster Fund so that our impact can most directly go straight to the students in need. Thank you to all our constituents who contributed to our Ole Miss Club of Boston general fund this year and trusted us to direct those funds prudently in your honor.
This need is real and urgent. Please consider donating to the Rebel Relief Disaster Fund and share this information widely (https://ignite.olemiss.edu/project/49248). If you would like to donate in honor of our Ole Miss Alumni Association club you can either state ‘Ole Miss Club of Boston’ as the honoree when you make your donation or Venmo us (-walker-14) and we will make another joint donation in honor of the club.
From Ole Miss Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs:
“The visible damage to our campus’ beautiful landscape is sad to see, but the impact on our students remains even more concerning. As of this morning, more than 700 students have submitted requests for relief support. These requests reflect real and immediate needs. The average request is approximately $380, and while awards typically do not exceed $500, every request is carefully reviewed and considered. Our students are not asking for more than they need; they are asking for help to get through this moment. The most common requests for support are immediate and essential: food, water and maintaining stable housing as many students are unable to work due to limited business operations across the community. At the same time, many of these same students are volunteering throughout Oxford and surrounding areas, offering help to others even as they face their own challenges.”

Oxford and Ole Miss have been hit by a devastating ice storm that has left 20k without power, debilitating water pressure issues, immeasurable amounts of downed tree limbs and power lines, and impassable icy roads with predicted temperatures around freezing during most of the coming week. Nearly every street looks like a tornado has hit it and nearly every area has been affected in some way, including beloved landmarks like the Square, Grove, Alumni Center, and Faulkner’s home, as well as nearly every residential home.
Follow City of Oxford, Oxford Town Square (Mississippi), Robyn Tannehill for Mayor of Oxford, Oxford MS Police Department, and The University of Mississippi - Ole Miss mainly on FB & also Insta for active updates on what officials need from those in town, on campus, and out of town as well as what they are offering in the way of help.
Stay and , the sun will shine again over Oxford soon, and we will bring our town back to life together. Know that your Boston Ole Miss community is watching, with you, and ready to hear how we can offer our support.
