Although injuries have interrupted parts of his early career, Anthony has shown just how special his bat can be when he’s healthy. Now, the big question is how high his ceiling can be if he can stay on the field!
Let’s get to know the talented outfielder a little better! 👇
🔹 1. FLORIDA NATIVE 🌴
Roman Joseph Anthony was born on May 13, 2004, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
🔹 2. A HIGH SCHOOL POWERHOUSE 💣
Anthony gained national attention as a high school player, including a 450-foot home run during the 2021 High School All-American Game. He also won back-to-back state championships and earned Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Baseball honors as a senior.
🔹 3. DRAFTED BY BOSTON IN 2022 ✍️
The Red Sox selected Anthony 79th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft and signed him for a $2.5 million bonus. He chose professional baseball over his commitment to Ole Miss.
🔹 4. THE 497-FOOT GRAND SLAM! 🤯
Before his MLB debut, Anthony crushed a 497-foot grand slam for Triple-A Worcester on June 7, 2025. The blast had a 115.6 mph exit velocity and traveled farther than any home run hit in the majors that season!
🔹 5. HE WAS BASEBALL’S NO. 1 PROSPECT ⭐
Anthony rose quickly through Boston’s farm system and was ranked the No. 1 overall prospect in baseball before making his Major League debut on June 9, 2025.
🔹 6. A ROOKIE SEASON TO REMEMBER 📈
In 71 games during 2025, Anthony hit .292 with 8 home runs, 32 RBIs, a .396 on-base percentage, and an .859 OPS. He also earned American League Rookie of the Month honors for August.
🔹 7. A HARD-HIT MACHINE 🚀
Anthony recorded an average exit velocity of 94.5 mph in 2025, with a 60.3% hard-hit rate, which led all qualified MLB hitters. His ability to consistently make powerful contact is a big part of what makes his bat so exciting.
🔹 8. THE ANTHONY FAMILY LINEAGE 😂
His father is named Anthony Anthony, and his older brother and grandfather are also named Anthony! When asked whether he would name a future son Anthony Anthony, Roman joked that he would never put a kid through that. 😅

Anthony represented Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, finishing with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. He hit a three-run homer against Mexico and a go-ahead home run against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals. Team USA finished with the silver medal, and Anthony earned All-WBC Team honors as an outfielder!
🔹 10. LOCKED IN FOR THE FUTURE 🔒
In August 2025, Boston signed Anthony to an eight-year, $130 million contract extension, keeping the young outfielder under contract through 2033, with a club option for 2034. The organization clearly sees him as a major part of its future!
