Amazing day on amazing skis

Entering some new territory with Shaggy's! Snowskates! I've been lusting after one of these skis for years and they had some blems ready to go, amazing! I'll try to post results once I get it drilled properly and mounted up, if this crazy weather permits, or I'll get some groomers anyway on snow gun groomers amiright? Let's get it!

Tomorrow we're getting a visit from Shaggy's Copper Country Skis for a ski demo! Small-batch crafted skis out of Boyne City, MI, you'll find care and attention to detail in every piece of equipment. Stop by, say hi, and test some skis!

Our morning digging out was nonsense in a love snow way. Next we track runs and trails with the sled as its standstill deep unless steep. 35” and 8’ drifts.

Greetings! 1 PM today and 18 degrees snowing 2”+ per hour measuring 17-24” depending on the wind. Hope to Snocat up to Challenge drifts but the fireside feels pretty good right now.

Mancelona is known for the top snow in Lower Michigan thanks to the lake effect and Orographic lift. In the 1995/96 season 245” or 20.5 feet were recorded for Mancelona in town but Mt Mancelona due to the Drumlin Range and steep slopes collecting moisture and always more POW! It snows here on bluebird days having a beer at Shorts 15 min away. The moist wind hits Mt Mancelona Drumlins and is forced to rise. Rising air expands due to lower pressure and that expanded air cools, allowing the moisture to condense into the snow. The process (good for apes ski trivia) is called orographic lift. It is responsible for making more than half of the snow that naturally falls on large mountains and much more than In town. Then, there’s convective precipitation but that's for another day.

Amazing Mt Mancelona first day with beautiful big snow crystals slowly falling. .

We tested our new t’s and hanger recoils on the 1958 Dopplemayr (not public (yet and needs support)) T-Bar Surface Lift. Mike Agrusa here 32 years working on her says to his knowledge it's 2nd or 3rd oldest running in the world. It's running like a top and thanks, Mike! Mike also saved and had the South Poma Surface Lift running years ago which would be our second choice lift to bring back!

It's a Spring Thing... Jay Peak Resort 5/8/2022

I LOVE my Shaggy's!! The Ahmeek 95's are not only very responsive in the East Coast glades, but their durability is incredible. I've skied 3 season on them and only 1 base weld needed after last season and so far it doesn't look like any yet this season. 😂 I ski til the end...The season isn't over yet!

Skiing Glades in May?!? What? Let them ski grass... The glades were all mine for the taking!

There were a lot of added obstacles in the glades but the Higher Ground was definitely skiable. For obvious reasons, most people stayed on the trails, which skied awesome... think corn. It's May, it's 60 degrees, and a blue bird day, You take what you can get... and Jay Peak delivered once again.

And they plan to open 1 more weekend!!!

To accomplish this nanoMAG® magnesium alloy sheets are inlaid into the wood cores. The unique characteristic of this material is its ability to dissipate mechanical energy into heat, with increased capacity as the material is moved faster.

Making 3lb Carbon Fiber Skis (6lb/pair)

This summer we had a request to make a 3lb/ski (6lb/pair) Ahmeek 95 for a customer who does a fair amount of hiking with his skis in his bag, before he gets to snow to start skinning uphill. After a few conversations back and forth, we decided to take on his project and push the boundaries of how light we can make one of our models using ultra light carbon fiber, while still using a hardwood core (grown in the USA).

Follow along to see how close we got to our target and see how we built this pair of carbon fiber skis!
