Anyone who has played the game of baseball, knows that it can be an emotional sport. It has highs and lows, ups and downs, and sometimes things just don’t go your way. It takes mental toughness and fortitude to overcome challenges, because there is always the next at bat or play in the field that needs to be made. And coaches always look for team members who can provide stability in challenging times. Gavin is always there in the dugout to provide that stability. Like a ship standing straight in a storm, Gavin is always able to stay level headed. For that reason, Gavin was selected as this week’s captain. Leading the team in hits so far, Gavin has been instrumental on several occasions in starting rallies and providing a spark for the team when needed the most, including swiping a base or two with his quickness. In the field, Gavin has shown tremendous growth on multiple levels including strong outfield play, as well as his overall knowledge of the game to be in the right spot at the right time. Leaders come in different outward forms, and Gavin sets the example to his team with his actions more than his words, but the message is nonetheless a strong one. Gavin continues to be eager to learn the game of baseball, and it will be exciting to watch his growth this season with his teammates, who have become his closest friends.

Liam is energetic, hard working, and always gives 100%. He is the first to respond “yes coach!” whenever asked to do something, which is why he was selected as the next team captain. Liam’s tenacity was evident in the first team win where he played a stellar left field, worked hard behind the plate as catcher, and was a spark at the plate and base paths. Liam continues to improve everyday, and that desire to work hard is infectious to the other team members, which is what a coach loves to see. We can’t wait to see Liam’s progression throughout the season, and know he will be that energetic force for the team when needed.
