Cumberland tallies a win on their final home game to send off their 6 seniors, Hoyos, Holt, Baran, Pace, Lopez and Cornwall (pictured l to r).

Fernando Santiago and Israel Benigno each had a goal and two assists and Cumberland broke open a close game in the second half to end its season on a high note with a 6-1 win over St. Joseph (Hamm.) in Seabrook. Senior Jonathon Hoyos and freshmen Mauricio Garcia both got their first career varsity goals to put the nail in the coffin. Justin Cornwall scored his team-leading eighth goal and Josh Holt had a goal and an assist for the Colts, who snapped a three-game losing streak and finished the year with a 5-11-2 record.

Cumberland led 2-1 at the break before pulling away with four second-half goals leading to a win in goal for Ryker Barile. The Colts look to return next year with 12 returning varsity experienced players and strong JV players that hope to be bumping up.

Weather is getting colder which means the end of season is approaching! Today was our last road game as we did not make the playoffs this year for first time since 2018. We have one last home game scheduled for next Wednesday vs St Joes Hammonton and looking to end on a high note with a win for our seniors. Tough season with some critical starters getting injured but hopeful with 12 players returning next year with valuable varsity experience with lots of minutes this year plus many prospects from a sophomore heavy JV squad that was killing it all season finishing 10-3-1! Looking forward to seeing what this season has done to help us prepare for next season with lots of building and learning moments all season. Our boys have created great memories and lasting friendships from jv to varsity and freshmen to seniors. They truly have become a family and despite a tough season, that makes the coaching staff so happy!

Cumberland Boys' Soccer Triumphs: Varsity and JV Secure Wins

The Cumberland Regional boys' soccer program had a huge day yesterday, with both the varsity and JV teams bringing home critical victories.
The varsity team defeated a tough Timber Creek team 2-1, thanks in large part to a stellar performance from goalkeeper Riker Barile, who had seven saves. This was a pivotal win that not only brought the Colts' record back to .500 but also earned them massive power points for playoff seeding. Goals were scored by Justin Cornwall and Fernando Santiago, with assists from Cornwall and Brody Willis.

The JV team also won their match, with 3 goals, 2 assists scored by Mauricio Garcia.
Angel Nolasco 1 goal, Christian Villagomez 1 goal,
Angel Ramirez 1 goal, Chino Cruz 1 assist, Jhostin Gonzalez 1 assist.

In a stunning display of heart and determination, the Cumberland Colts boys' varsity soccer team pulled off an epic 4-3 overtime victory against the Triton Mustangs! Down 3-0 at the half, the Colts' hopes seemed dashed. But they came out in the second half like a team reborn. Senior Justin Cornwall sparked the comeback with a phenomenal goal from outside the box, and shortly after, Fernando Santiago Jr. buried a clutch penalty kick, narrowing the deficit. Then, with just three seconds left in regulation and the team playing down a man, Santiago drew another clutch foul in the box. With ice in his veins, he buried the penalty kick to tie the game and send the crowd into a frenzy! The Colts' defense held strong through a tense first overtime, and then, with five minutes left in the second, the heroics were complete. Cornwall re-entered the game, met a perfect corner kick, and sent a powerful header soaring into the net for the golden-goal win. What a game, what a comeback, what a victory!
