These kinds of posts are why I LOVE being the Arkansas State Youth Director—watching young anglers grow in their abilities and follow their dreams of fishing. ❤️🎣
And NO, I am not saying they all have to become professional anglers! There are so many men and women who are following their dreams and enjoying their passion for fishing without doing it professionally.
What is a professional angler?
In the words of Ed’s Fly Shop, “A professional fishing angler is a specialized sportsperson who earns a primary living through competitive fishing tournaments, corporate sponsorships, and media promotions rather than commercial harvesting.”
My passion and LOVE is providing opportunities for kids across Arkansas to participate in competitive fishing tournaments. Through fishing, I have met some of the BEST people in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD—people I now have the privilege of calling my friends. That includes people involved in youth fishing and adult fishing.
And NO, I am not saying everyone needs to jump in and become a boat captain. It TRULY takes a village! There are so many ways you can help:
🎣 Volunteer at takeoff or weigh-in
🎣 Become a boat captain
🎣 Take pictures
🎣 Help weigh fish
🎣 Help with setup or cleanup
🎣 Simply show up and encourage our young anglers
A lot goes into every tournament, but I NEVER mind the work because it truly makes a difference in these kids’ lives. When you spend time around these tournaments, you can feel the appreciation and excitement. You get a front-row seat as these young anglers build confidence, improve their skills, develop friendships, and grow in their passion and dreams.
That makes every early morning, long day, and late night worth it!
If you know a kiddo who loves fishing, please tell them about Arkansas Youth Bass Nation!
🎣 Junior Division: 2nd through 8th grade
🎣 High School Division: 8th through 12th grade
🎣 Northern Trail and So-Central Trail available this season
Our anglers have opportunities to fish lakes and rivers across Arkansas and surrounding areas, including Lake Dardanelle, Norfork Lake, Greers Ferry Lake, Bull Shoals Lake, DeGray Lake, Lake Hamilton, Lake Maumelle, Lake Monticello, Table Rock Lake, Grand Lake, Tenkiller Lake, Lake Ouachita, Millwood Lake, and the Arkansas River at Dumas—and many more!
You do not have to be a professional angler to follow your dream. Sometimes the dream is simply getting on the water, competing, improving, building friendships, and doing something you truly LOVE.
Come join our fishing family and help us continue investing in the next generation of anglers! ❤️🎣
