Martial artists do high-rep push-ups as part of their conditioning programs
Law enforcement and the military do push-ups as well
But there is a lot left to be desired in your push-up training
What I said in the video does have a hint of generality in it, meaning that it may not be suitable for YOUR SPECIFIC situation,
HOWEVERRRR
Because this is an area of strength oftentimes neglected by those training for strength-endurance,
I’m 100% confident that this tip will help you
That’s cuz strength-endurance is something we call “SUBMAXIMAL” strength, meaning it requires LESS than your maximum effort
But the STRONGER you get MAXIMALLY, the EASIER your SUBmaximal, high-rep pushups become
That’s because training on one end of the spectrum (remember the picture in the video?) helps performance on the other side of the spectrum,
even though it doesn’t EMPHASIZE the opposite end
There is some transfer, some carryover between the two
That’s not to say don’t train our high-rep stuff. HELL NO!!
There are certain things happening in the muscle at the microscopic level that you just can’t get with low-rep, heavy training
So you GOTTA train that stuff, BUT!!
Just not at the expense of totally eliminating your low-rep strength
Any questions?

Kick Higher, Jumper Higher, Split Lower What Inspired Me to Follow Fitness as a Career Path? I started Taekwondo at 11 years old, and competed for two years. Why?
My entry into the fitness field derived from realizing physical changes and improvements in my abilities from mindful training. I stopped taekwondo between 14 and 15 years old. At that time, I joined the track team in Midwood High School, where I enjoyed running 800m - 1600m races, and 1.5 - 3.1 miles in cross country events. Post-graduation, I was no longer a competitive athlete, but discovered e
So April 4, 2022, concluded my physical fitness assessment
Earlier that week, I had a conventional deadlift PR of 429lbs, did heavy squats and bench presses
On Saturday, I did:
1). 108.2lbs Pistol squat (PR)
2). 52 push-ups (STERNUM TO FLOOR, elbows FULLY extended at the top)
3). 20 chin-ups (elbows FULLY extended at the bottom, chin clearing bar)
4). The last, but definitely not least, event was the 1-mile run in 5:45.
Not as fast as high school-me, but my OVERALL fitness is atmospheres higher than it was in high school
What's even better is that I didn't do any speed-specific work for the mile,
so that makes me hopeful for what I can achieve later this year
I talk a lot more about the 1-mile run in the video, so if you wanna see that AND WATCH ME SUFFER :) watch it
P.S. I forgot to add my jump turning hooks after the test,
to show you can kick well and move well even without training the way a traditional martial arts school wants you to train.
I’ll post it another time.
If you need help developing your fitness or kicking ability, lemme know - those are my lanes :)
YOUR’RE DOING TOO MUCH!
in the martial arts world, seems like you could never do enough
Anything less than your best is you being lazy
But sometimes doing your best means doing less
Taking a step back on something can allow for multiple steps forward in another thing, or other thingS
If you’ve hit a plateau in your martial arts training, what I say in the video may help you
I don’t like this. Why continue pursuing your opponent in COMPETITION when he’s clearly defenseless?
Self-defense in a life or death situation is different, but I can’t respect that in a competitive environment 🥋🙏🏾
Repose from you taken a liver shot? What did it feel like? 📹

HOW OFTEN DO I STRETCH? 💭 🤔
Looking at this picture, I was thinking of giving you a technique cue to get the MOST out of your straddles
But I felt like answering this question
When I came back from my 11-year hiatus from TaeKwonDo, and I was regaining flexibility, I’d stretch 3x/week; sometimes 4x/week
Now, I don’t want to increase my flexibility, because I want to dedicate more time and energy to improving my 2mile time and strength-endurance in 3 key exercises
But now I might stretch 1x/week - 2x/week depending on my fatigue levels and how busy I am
Bottomline - to gain, you gotta do more
To maintain, you don’t have to do as much as you think
What are you tryna improve right now, though? 🥋🙏🏾

Thanks to for having this pic on his profile
This was my first test back from my 11-year break from TaeKwonDo 🥋🙏🏾🇰🇷
Sometimes this s**t doesn’t have to be practical; it just has to be fun 🥋🙏🏾

CORE TRAINING FOR BETTER KICKING
Training the core makes you a better kicker, but training the core for a 4,6, or 8-pack (depending on your genetic endowment),
Isn’t the same core training that makes you a versatile, powerful, dynamic kicker
I’ll touch on core training for overall kicking prowess in the coming days
If you’d like me to personally train you to develop the core to become a WELL-ROUNDED, DANGEROUS kicker, DM me “CORE” to get started

KNEE-PAIN IN MARTIAL ARTS!
A common problem that I see in martial artists when trying to move/kick their best, is KNEE-PAIN, especially patella tendinitis
You’ll probably notice pain in the front of the knee when doing riding stances, squatting, and jumping
And you may be afraid that you can’t practice your art; can’t do simple daily tasks;
You’re robbed of the JOY to move FREELY; and becoming a shell of what you used to be
I know it’s frustrating, cuz I’ve been there; but it’s not your fault
What’s actually causing this is poor TECHNIQUE when doing leg-strengthening exercises
AND using the wrong LOAD in these exercises in certain ranges of motion
I’ve found that the best solution is to address your static-passive flexibility, and dynamic-active flexibility….
In a couple of key muscles
Would you like to learn about these? I’m going to teach it tomorrow

WHAT’S GOING ON❓
Wassup 🙂so I just wanted to quickly answer a question that many people have been asking me
“How’s work, Kimana❓”
Well, I’ve been having a good time training some soldiers 🪖here, and partaking in some of the activities
But there has been one big change…
I recently started an online program SPECIFICALLY for martial artists who need to:
✅ Kick higher ⚡️
✅ Master the splits 🙆♀️
✅ Develop more powerful strikes 🔋
✅ And jump higher ⛹🏾♂️
I’d like to keep this short, so if you want to learn more or check it out, DM me “Tell me more.”
Anyways, that’s all I have for you today
Drop a line or two if you have a question 🙋🏽♂️
‘Til next time
GOTTA GO! 🙏🏾🥋🙏🏾🥋🏃🏾♂️💨

I DON’T HAVE RESPECT FOR RANK!!
I remember too many times a belts of higher rank, INSTRUCTORS
Taking advantage of their power and authority and having students do push-ups for the most absurd reasons
Then giggling when the student has to repeat a push-up because the student, at no fault of their own, was not “bending their arms.”
Unfortunately, s**t like this happens too often, and those who oversee these instructors fail to do enough to maintain an emotional and psychologically safe space for their students to practice
So
I don’t respect rank. I don’t have any respect for rank, BUT!!
I do respect people
There are white belts and green belts whom I’d GLEEFULLY call “Sir” or “Ma’am” than a black belt, or better yet, an instructor
I can go on and on, but imma stop here
This post by just brought back some memories
What do you think?
I’ve been seeing him around lately
What do you think?
Legit? Nonsense?….
😈 WHY YOU SHOULD HIT A GIRL! 👧
NO! 🛑 I’m not encouraging people, men especially, to go around hitting women‼️⚠️
Do I look crazy to you⁉️⁉️
I’m a little crazy, but that’s besides the point 🙃
I’m using “girl” as a metaphor for bullies and physical threats in this instance
I talked with a gentleman in London the other day who wants to improve increase his:
1). self-confidence
2). Strength
3). Power
4). Flexibility
5). Overall ability to defend himself
he believed being on a science-based exercise program for martial artists, like the one I offer,
Would help him do that
He’s been attacked before, unjustly, got some joints broken, etc (was a messy situation) 😳
I’ve seen it happen to my brother, my friends in high school, and to me, and almost me
Bullies/Predators don’t play but the rules (in this example, my opponent punches to head when they know that they shouldn’t)
They also kneed me in the groin, when they know that they shouldn’t
Those out to harm you won’t play by the rules
You can practice all the technique you want, but you know something is missing
You know your techniques could be more effective
Question to ask yourself, tho:
Do you feel like your body is prepared to handle a physical confrontation of necessary?
Do you feel like you OWN the techniques you use because you have sufficient:
Flexibility, strength, more, core fitness, etc?
If you answered “no” to any of those questions, and you’d like to develop your body to throw effective kicks and hand strikes, comment “me” down below
And I’ll message you
Til next time
