The guest speakers at the weekly Kiwanis Club of Bryan's meeting were Emili Clingaman and Mike Donavan representing Northwest State Community College's new Golf Club. This activity is organized as a club and sponsored by the college to give students an opportunity to pursue golf at a collegiate level. Emili and Mike are the school's advisors to the program and created this activity for the students this year. The club has just completed their first season. The club competes against other college club teams as well as some universities JV squads. The Northwest team is a member of The National Collegiate Club Golf Association. The club has receives a great deal of support from Suburban Golf Club here in Bryan and the golf course serves as Northwest's home course. Emili is a staff member at Northwest State Community College and Mike is a Guidance Counselor at Stryker High School. The Kiwanis Club of Bryan officially welcomed back former member Shelly Dean to our ranks this week. Mrs. Dean who served the club in every capacity years ago before stepping away has made the decision to rejoin Kiwanis. The guest speaker at the weekly Kiwanis Club of Bryan this week was Dr. Shay Pursel. Dr. Pursel spoke about the journey of reinventing herself as an author, editor and marketer in literature. She shared with us her first published novelette entitled, Ivy Oxley and her Mecca. The book is dedicated to: All women of the world who didn't know they could pursue their professional dreams at any crossroad, any age, and in any direction; as a choice for abundance. The guest speaker at the 5/13/26 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Bryan was Bernie Davis. Mr. Davis spoke with us about the new building addition to Bryan High School currently under construction, that will house the new Career Tech Center that will begin classes and new vocational offerings this fall. Following a career in construction, Mr. Davis was the Career Tech teacher at Montpelier High School for 8 years and headed this program there. He has agreed to join Bryan High School in that same capacity next school year. He noted that 175 students have already enrolled for the fall with a 50/50 mix of males and females. Programs to be offered include automotive, welding, lathe and mill metal work, wood working, a computer lab, drafting and eventually construction skills. These are all new offerings for Bryan High School and Mr. Davis is excited to usher in this opportunity to Bryan High School Students. At the weekly Kiwanis Club of Bryan's meeting of 5/13/26, a check was presented to Ben Dominique, the Director of Bryan's Park and Recreation Department. The check for $1500.00 is for a park bench to be placed in Lincoln Park. The bench is dedicated to the memory of long-time Kiwanian Von Plessner. The Kiwanis Club of Bryan will be at the Bryan Spring Fling around the Courthouse Square this Saturday to draw the winners of our Meat Raffle! Stop by and see us at our table from 10am-3pm. Live drawing for the raffle will start on Facebook Live. Last minute tickets will be available at the booth. See you Saturday and best of luck!!

Note - In-person attendance is not required for the drawing. Raffle winners will be called the following Monday and prize pickups will be arranged.
