Developed and directed by a certified special education teacher/administrator and Special Olympics coach, Upward Basketball at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church is a unique opportunity for athletes of all ability levels to learn and enjoy the game of basketball together. Our structured environment emphasizes teamwork, social skills, relationship building, and the game of basketball. This is a no-press
ure, low-competition league that provides an opportunity to make new friends and develop basketball skills in a safe environment.
-8 week league running September 20-November 15
-Located at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church (Bryn Mawr, PA)
-Tuesday or Wednesday night practices, Saturday morning games, 1-hr each (mark your calendars!)
-Every athlete receives a full uniform (jersey, t-shirt, shorts)
-Special attention is given to those who have a fear of the ball, the buzzer, large crowds, or social challenges preventing them from joining a regular team
-Special needs friendly with visual schedules, structured practices, and clear expectations for all athletes
-NBA style introductions and game-day opportunities that align with typical youth sports experiences
-New connections, social experiences, and leadership opportunities with a variety of peers and ability levels!
-Adapted refereeing to help promote confidence, success, and skill development
-BMPC students, community members, and athlete siblings volunteer as Coaches, Buddies, Announcers, and Referees
-Optional Inclusive “Team Up Tournament” for athletes with and without disabilities - November 12, 2016 - Mark your calendars! (participation encouraged even if you do not sign up for our league!)
