Thank you to the members who played in our impromptu first event of the season this morning. A good time was had by all because it was good to be back at South Park for the 95th year of the club.
The course is ok and definitely not wet. It is actually surprisingly dry. The greens are slow but are expected to be better this week after they lower the mower's blades to the traditional height.
All the fairways have been cut down to normal height, except for the 1st hole, which should be completed this week. The rough on some holes is high, especially to the left of number 1 and the right of 4, which are greater than US Open height.
See everyone on Tuesday for skins and remember to sign up for all events, which are on a board in the starter mobile unit. The next event is the Polish v. Irish on Saturday, June 13.

While the golf course is expected to open this weekend, it is uncertain whether carts will be allowed out. If you plan on coming to the 9 hole gathering on Saturday morning it may be walking only and do not expect optional conditions.

The golf course is expected to open this week. Due to the postponement of the Memorial Day Tournament and South Buffalo Cup to later in the year, the club will be having a "Finally the Course is Open Kickoff 9 Hole Event" this Saturday, May 30.
We ask all members who wish to play to arrive by 8:50 am so we can do a blind draw for tee times and then go out between 9 and 10 am. We will have food after.

As a reminder, the Memorial Day Tournament scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, May 23 is POSTPONED due to the expected heavy rain.
As a course update, Olmsted crews have been on site this week trying to cut the course. All greens and tees have been cut, and they are taking on the fairways. However, it is still high in spots because the grass was too high for the fairway mower, as you can see in the below pictures. In some areas the rough is US Open height and thick. You could easily lose a ball in it.
Hopefully the rain isn't too bad and the crews can be back out soon and they open the course next week.

Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast, we have made the decision to postpone tomorrow’s tournament. Based on the current conditions and expected rainfall, it appears the course may not even be open for play.
We are currently working to identify a new date for the tournament and will share updates with everyone as soon as more information becomes available.
We are also aware that the sign-up deadlines for the Scratch Match and Lesso are approaching. To ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to participate, we will be extending the sign-up period. As plans continue to come together, we will keep everyone informed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of the officers.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Hopefully this weather starts to take a turn for the better....
Thank you,
South Park Men’s Golf Club Officers

Important Opening Tournament Update ⛳️
Due to the recent weather, the course has unfortunately been unable to dry out enough for golf operations to take place at South Park.
After working closely with Olmsted to find a solution, we’re happy to announce that our Opening Tournament will now be held at Delaware Park Golf Course in place of South Park Golf Course.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we work through the challenges Mother Nature has thrown our way this season. If you have any questions, please reach out to Paul or any of the club officers.
We’re looking forward to finally getting the season underway and seeing everyone out on the course!

As we wait for drier weather and the opening of the golf course, we do have good news to report: demolition had begun on the inside and outside of the clubhouse.
Contracts have been signed with Rodriguez Construction to do the demolition and renovation work, and we are hopeful the clubhouse will be ready to use by fall.
Also, the initial plan has the clubhouse being fully insulated and heated, meaning it will be open all year round.
Thankfully, the old trophies and plaques were saved, though some have water damage. We are talking with Olmsted about having a nice new trophy case installed in the renovated clubhouse.

Fantastic News! The New York Power Authority's Niagara Greenway Commission announced it will be giving $985,000 to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy to rebuild the Clubhouse following the fire and make it an ADA accessible facility!!
This money should be available this year, meaning the reconstruction can begin this year.
On behalf of all our club members, thank you to the members of the Power Authority and Greenway Commission for this incredible grant, as well as our partners with Olmsted Parks, City of Buffalo and County of Erie who advocated for it and invested in it before the fire. We are all very appreciative!!
