So BluesSHOUT just happened and our very own Tim O'Neill placed 2nd in the "All Stars Strictly Finals," placed 2nd in the "All Stars J&J Finals," and was voted as one of the favorite national instructors at BluesSHOUT. Unfortunately, we have to cancel the February class series for Study Hall Blues. Despite the excitement i’ve been hearing from the general public, it seems we do not actually have enough people signed up to be able to pay for expenses (rental fee of our studio space, etc). And so, we will NOT have classes in February. We apologize for the inconvenience. But we’ll try again in March, and see if we have better luck then.

To those of you who have been to Study Hall Blues before: we love your dedication! Please tell your friends about how great it is to take blues lessons, and ask them to sign up for the next series.

Class Sign Up | Study Hall Blues

Hey everyone,

So for the month of Oct we'll be doing a progressive blues class series with Katie Belsky and Aaron Brown. We have classes scheduled for every Tue of October at 8:30. It will cost $50 (plus eventbrite fees) for 5 classes.

As for the place, we have one in mind but we won't get lockdown approval till Monday. We'll be using Eventbrite online payment and the first person to buy a pass will pay 20 dollars, the next 5 people will pay $45. Eventbrite will go online once we lockdown the venue.

Survey | Study Hall Blues

Study Hall Blues is contemplating having a weekly progressive blues series for the month of Oct. How this would work is by asking you to sign-up in order to be involved in this series of lessons. We'd have to meet the minimum requirements of 15 leads, and 15 follows. If we meet those requirements we'll start the class and ask for upfront 50 dollars by online payment. If we don't meet the requirements, oh well, we'll try it another month.

By doing it weekly it'll help you know the other people within the class and build friendships and camaraderie within the blues scene. Also it'll really help progress your blues dancing by doing it on a weekly basis. We don't want to do this year round because we might not have enough need to have these lessons, thus having one month at a time can help regulate the want for blues lessons vs our busy life schedules.

Does this sound like something you'd be interested in? If so please fill out a survey to help us figure out what time and place would work best for everyone. We'd want to make sure everything works out just as well for you guys as it would for us. Even if you're not sure about taking the classes, fill this survey out so it can help us determine when and where would be the best time to have SHB.

Two: Do Something Blue is this friday with special guest DJ Jenny Sowden also both Tim and Jenny has a special demo performance at dsb so be sure to check it out. Also if you guys want to pre-reg for the Jenny Sowden and Tim O'Neil workshop at Do Something Blue, I'll be setting up an area for that. Just be sure to bring your 40 dollars in cash.

We have 4 fantastic classes picked out for the Jenny Sowden and Tim O'Neil Workshop and here are the descriptions of each class, check it out:

Torso Tech
Breaking down what is possible with torso movement, we'll then show you how these tools are used in your partnered dance to make clear, smooth, and sometimes sassy dances.

Poetic Redirection
We're changing the direction of the momentum in your dance without ending the sentence with a '.' (period) Instead we'll let the momentum create stretch and compression using ',' (commas) and ';' (semicolons). Find how the timing of your redirection can make you a dancing poet.

Sneaky Adds Ons
This is how one can add something into your dance without directly changing what your partner is doing. This is a fun class for both leads and follows to throw a little play or styling in, while staying with the partnered connection.

Composition of a Dance
Just like one would write a story or essay you create a dance. This class will touch on the introduction, building your dance, the conclusion and possibly a couple side plots. This is a fun brain teaser for all levels.

Two things, I've talked to Lance, the guy that runs Lindy Groove, and he'll be having a Blues and Swing night on March 14th, hich works great for us. Right when we are done with the mini workshop, LG will be starting their blues room. We can all do a, as Joy calls it, "Mass Exodus to LG" right after the workshop.
