Is your little sick!? Having trouble getting ALL the things into them!? Yesterday was an awesome day spent with my family... Started with my bday breakfast tradition of French toast (since I was a Lil kid) and mimosas (didn’t have those when I was a kid!) Ha! It was a gorgeous day here in Colorado, perfect for a beautiful hike in Boulder then lunch and beers at a local brewery and ended the day with a homemade cake made by my daughter and Mom! Happy Birthday to me... it was truly a fun and special day!

I made this one up last night and it was so delicious. It took me 5mins to make!
All ingredients are of course organic and non-gmo:
1/2 cup coconut milk
3 tablespoons chia seeds
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons raw cacao powder
1/2 a banana chopped up
Topped with coconut shreds

Getting back to work on my L Sit! Strength comes in so many different ways but being able to focus, concentrate and communicate with your body is such an amazing thing. This is why I love isometric movements so much and of course anything involving core strength!
When you workout, try to use your body weight or free weights as opposed to machines... most machines do the balancing and core work for you... but you want that to be the focus of every move you do... your entire body, esp your core should be working hard to help the main muscles that are performing the move. Many mornings Avery is outside with me as I train clients, once the other Mommy heads off to work! This is one of Avery’s favorite things to do! She loves to fist bump my clients, watch them in amazement as they work hard, and attempt to imitate them by grabbing a tiny kettlebell or the battle ropes or even squatting with them as they squat! And to be honest, her being outside with us brings such a great energy that my clients seem to work even harder... or at least “forget” how hard they are working because this little cutie pie is entertaining them! This time of year all sorts of things effect our weight... booze is definitely one of them! Its a lot of empty calories but it sure is hard to say no to that holiday cocktail! The best advice I can give is to try not to drink during the week, drink a glass of water with each cocktail, get your workouts in and remember to not be so hard on yourself... it’s the holidays, enjoy, be merry, and come January get your b***y back into gear when all the craziness calms down!

I’m always trying to challenge myself and always working on strength... there are always ways and places to improve and challenge yourself. Instead of judging myself and seeing that I can get even tighter in this move... I reminded myself that at one time I didn’t have use of my right arm for over 2yrs... so the fact that I’ve never given up and I always attempt what seems and feels impossible... I remind myself to give myself a big ol hi-5 and be proud of the place I’m at and remember to never stop trying to improve. Too many times we see what we can’t do and what we aren’t doing... we must build ourselves up!!

I accomplished something on Sunday that was huge for me! 70.5mi in 5hrs 13mins with almost 4K feet of climbing... it was a lot of climbing!! I hadn’t been on my bike in 3yrs, then I hopped on and did 43mi. 6mos later I did the same ride. Then I got an email to help raise money for a good cause and I said YES to a metric century organized ride! I did a few training rides that were brutal in that Santa Clarita heat and it made me wonder if I can even do this... but as the hashtag for this ride is and that’s one of my mottos too... I believed in myself and proved that you are capable of anything! can make things difficult for me but I never let it stop me... my body has been pretty beat up the past 2 days but the feeling I had when I crossed that finished line conquers any pain I currently have. There is nothing better than pushing yourself and proving to yourself that you are capable of anything you work hard at! My ABC’s to life are (after I had my bad injury back in 2005) and I did just that this past Sunday!! This ride is to make the streets ...there has been a huge epidemic of hit & run crimes in LA and Damian Kevitt knows this all too well. In 2013 a car hit him at Griffith Park while he was out riding with his wife and the car just took off dragging him a quarter of a mile and onto the 5fwy!! Barely surviving, he lost his right leg, broke over 20 bones and had 11 surgeries and as he was going through all of this all he could think of was “finishing the ride” and creating something that would make LA streets safer for all! “The only way I can ever bring closure to what happened to me is by taking the bad that occurred and turning it into something good - and not just for one or two others” ... is a true inspiration and is a great reminder of strength, courage, and that anything can happen and good can always come from bad! It was an honor to ride this ride and I am so proud of myself for crushing it! @ Heritage Park
