2023 US National Sumo Tournament and North American Sumo Championship Join Iron Wave sumo for the 2023 National Tournament! This event will determine the qualifiers for this year's international events!
Just on the CW Night News here in Orlando.
Although this was on the agenda for the nationals meeting, it got knocked off; so I wanted to include it here:
World Games Report
2022 was an exciting year for American Sumo. We sent a record 19 athletes to the World Games in the summer of 2022, along with 6 other delegates. This was the first World Competition on U.S. soil, and many of you were a part of history. As a collective body of US athletes, we won many matches, and yet came up short. It was a privilege for Andrew and me to contribute the many hours of directing and organizing behind the scenes, and yet it was worth it in building lifelong memories with our national and international athletes, coaches, and the other volunteers.
Sumo is the greatest sport in the world—you and I feel that way, and time also agrees. It is a monumental privilege to be an ambassador to this ancient martial art, at ANY level. Our athletes come in all sizes, colors, shapes, and both genders.
As a trustee in the United States Sumo Federation I ask that you approach this collective body of athletes, leaders, organizers and promoters in the spirit of contributing what you have to offer, and not expecting anything in return. We are a 501c3 (charity) organization, which means that no one benefits financially in this federation. Our organization dropped some $15,000 in helping athletes to arrive and leave Birmingham, Alabama for this event, along with purchasing athletes’ uniforms and other needed expenses.
I am reminded when Trent Sabo dropped a couple of grand in helping me (alone) attend the 2002 German Open in Hanover, Germany—wanting nothing from me in return, other than a friend in this incredible brotherhood we all share. This is the disposition I hope we can all have towards each other.
And now the USSF is on the brink of yet another event to decide which athletes we will be sending to two world championships competitions! It takes money, but it also takes supporting each other. Overseas world championships are incredibly fun to attend, and compete in. Having represented the U.S. in twelve such events, I know; and I’ll be rooting for each one of you!
The World Games was an incredible event, but greater times and achievements for USSF and North American athletes are ahead of us. I wish all athletes the best luck during those important seconds that will decide our 2023 champions. You all have fight within you, or you wouldn’t be here. Thank you all, for your battle-proven spirit and contribution to the life-force of sumo that we all share.
$5 to $5 Million Is the martial arts worth at least $5? The Martial Arts History Museum will be launching its $5 to $5 Million Campaign to raise funds to relocate the museum ...
Dragonfest booth update: Thank you to so many who are already getting their booths. We need vendors this year, we don't have the sponsors as before so we need your help.
