Now that our facebook is up, we should tell our story as a company.
The Origin
The name Wessonfield is an English name, meaning "Settlement Field". The Wessonfield family got this name during the 1600s English immigration to America. Where, of course, they lived in a field. In 1918 Joshua Wessonfield's grandfather, John was killed at the age of 36 in World War 1. He was killed in an accident where American shells were mis-coordinated and hitting their own men. Joshua's dad, Johnson, was 17 and took up responsibility as the man of the house. In 1919, just a year later, Johnson's mother, Meridith died of Spanish Influenza. Johnson, being an only child, and newly 18 years of age, married a high school friend, Molly Welch, and moved out to live with her.
Childhood
In Peacham Vermont, on April 17, 1922, Paul Wessonfield was born. July 1, 1925, Mary Wessonfield was born. Johnson named his girl Mary in honor of his mother, Meridith. But in the middle, on December 14, 1924, Joshua Wessonfield was born, forever changing the course of history. As a child raised in a strict catholic household, Joshua was quite rebellious, along with his brother Paul. His sister, Mary was the prize of the house, always following her parent's rules. Despite the rebellious activities, Paul and Joshua still loved their family. And in 1938, Johnson fell ill to an unknown sickness. Joshua and Paul took up the men of the house responsiblity, while Mary and Molly took care of Johnson. But in 1939, he died. Joshua and Paul vowed to serve their country and honor their father and grandparents by joining the military, they only had to wait for the right chance. In 1940, Molly remarried. And in 1941 the chance the brothers were waiting for, came.
Army Service
After the Pearl Harbor attack, they knew the time was right. But before they could even join, they were immediately drafted into the US Army. The two signed a contract to stay together during service. After 13 weeks of basic training, they remained in Camp Gordon as part of the 4th Infantry Division. On June 6th, 1944, the brothers landed on Utah beach, France. During a close encounter with a squad of Germans, Paul's M1 Garand rifle jammed. Consequently, Paul was shot and killed in front of Joshua. The rest of the platoon came in and took care of the rest of the Germans, but Joshua sat there, traumatized. He kept on going. He had to. Along the way, he ditched the M1 and picked up a Thompson submachine gun off a dead officer. Later, when moving through a building, he was reloading the Thompson, when his hand slipped because of the lack of a magazine guide. He dropped the magazine, and a German soldier heard him. Luckily, as the man rounded the corner, he misplaced the shot and hit Joshua in the leg. The rest of the platoon came in and shot the man, and Joshua was sent home because of the injury. Because of the falts in the guns, he vowed to make better weapons in the future.
A New Weapon is Born
Joshua got home and majored in engineering at the University of Vermont, and after 4 years, majored in business at the same school. He graduated in 1952, at the age of 27. He started to design guns, after a while he had a revelation. Hot glue. Not only could it kill, It would put the enemy in pain and stick to them. The perfect weapon. He designed a back loaded gun with a heating mechanism and portable battery. He then designed a solid stick of this glue, that could be melted with the gun's heater. It was comfortable, easy to use, ambidextrous, had a magazine guide, low recoil, had an adjustable stock, and had a simple yet powerful inner mechanism. He called it the Wessonfield Hot Glue Rifle Model 1-54. It was the first ever hot glue gun.
Founded
With the help of a few buddies, he founded the Wessonfield Armory Company in Burlington Vermont, on August 29 1954. Later, it became fully developed and self sufficient, establishing it's own factories and departments. More models were made by the team, and the company flourished.
Where are we now?
Mary married a man named Edward Hier in 1942, and Molly died of age in 1976. Joshua passed ownership of the company to his son Victor (born May 27 1960), and Joshua died due to dementia complications in 2002. Mary died of ovarian cancer in January 2003, and Edward died in a car crash later in the same month. The company is where it is today, becoming the creator and number 1 manufacturer of hot glue guns in the world. Though, the President and CEO position is soon to be passed on to Victor's son, Garrick (born December 22, 1993), due to Victor's age.
