Bushido Judo School is one of the largest Operating Judo Schools in N.C. Founded in 1995 by now 4th Degree Black Belt, Sensei Darian Stokes, The instructors are compassionate about building the community through the philosophy of Martial Arts in teaching

We are a Non- profit organization dedicated to training individuals in the art and sport of Judo in order to develop better citizens through Discipline, Respect, Honor and good Sportsmanship

Bushido Judo School has been teaching youth and adults the virtues and discipline of Martial Arts for over 17 years, and is dedicated to insuring that the young people of our society have the opportunity to become more positive and productive members in their communities through the Martial Arts philosophy and the sport of Skateboarding. Although our non-profit status in newly formed, we have produced great young athletes over the past 14 years, including State, National, and International Champions. We are currently nurturing the dreams of some of our young students to become Olympic athletes, and professional skaters. We also sponsor children and travel monthly to Judo tournaments, seminars, Martial Arts clinics, and skateboard competitions across North Carolina, and neighboring states. We take our students to Regional and National, and International level competition in other states and plan to enter students into the Jr. Olympics, State Championships, and National Championships next year, traveling to states such as Texas, Tennessee, and possibly California. Some of our programs and events have made the local newspaper and community bulletins. We’ve even put flyers in local schools and colleges. We have come to realize that with the proper financial backing, we could reach more children and help them realize their dreams and goals. Although there are many organizations out there for our youth, there are few as passionate as we are about what we do. In order for our organization to thrive and be able to service the number of children in need of positive direction, we need your support.

I can hold my tongue on many things because I believe that everyone has a right to their opinion. But today I'm a little outraged. Not outraged that Trump actually did this... Nothing this man does shocks me anymore. What upsets me most is that despite this, there are still going to be people who will defend him. Some of you I know and call friend. you will always be my friend and you are always right long as we have mutual respect, however it's very frustrating to even think, that many will give him a pass.

I know it is patriotic for us to support our president. I had a hard time showing that picture says I'm during his first campaign, but it was solidified early on when he shipped protesters out in the cold and told security to hold their coats and let them freeze. I was also around the same time that he encouraged his supporters to attack any protesters and he would pay their legal fees. this is not the type of person I want to represent our country and I definitely don't want him to represent me because it's obvious that he doesn't. I shouldn't, but I apologize for my rant because I have many friends who support this man. I will respect you still, however I'm going to ask my friends to respect me because from this point on I want nothing more than to get him out of the White House come November. I'm going to encourage all of my friends who share my sentiment to please vote.

For those of you who are going to call "fake news" on my original post, I've screenshot at several news outlets are reporting on this same thing. I will also note that while this is going on, there is the incident with Russia putting a bounty on US citizens according to our intelligence agencies. I guess it doesn't matter because he will get a pass on that too.

I want to inform everyone because I've heard rumor of rioting in downtown Burlington. People... This isn't the way!
I know people are hurting and tentions are flaring, but we are attacking The wrong enemy. Racism is the enemy. Not black people, not white people, not cops... but racism and Injustice. And yeah I get it, when people are angry, over relationships, losing a loved one or whatever, they want to lash out and punch something or hit something or destroy something.... if that's the case then there are a lot of things that you can destroy that won't hurt someone else because that's all a riot does is hurt people. it hurts individuals, it hurts business, it hurts communities, and it destroys our society and sets us back. if you want to destroy something, go buy an old TV for a couple of bucks and get a sledgehammer and smash it to pieces. If you want to hit something put on some gloves and go practice punching a wall or tree. if you want to burn something start a bonfire in your own backyard and toss things in there that you don't mind parting with and watch it burn, and then take a knee and say a prayer for our society... For our country. I know we are better than this people, please don't give in to the hate. People fought for our country to be better than this. Don't take it out on your neighbors. Don't take it out on your community. Don't take it out on the people who work hard for their businesses to serve you better.
And, to the people who are making this situation worse by looting and stealing...
You need to think about who you are. Our parents raised us better and you know better. It makes you no better than the people we are fighting against. People who take advantage of people because they have a little bit of power. You are doing the same thing and it makes you NO better a person. Use this opportunity to call people together. Peacefully call for unity and Justice and equality and instead of tearing our city apart and tearing each other apart... What are you doing to end all this madness and bring everyone together? "If you're not a part of the solution, then you are part of the problem"

12 people on the mat today. Bushido is really starting to pick up in the new year. We've been through a lot over the past few years but this year, to all my students... I want you to understand your worth as an individual and as a team. Let's make 2020 our year! Go Bushido!!!

Created this poem for my students about 10 years ago... one of my favorite artistic works. This never gets old.....
Merry Christmas Bushido! Love you guys!!!

Twas the Class Before Christmas

Twas the class before Christmas, throughout the dojo
Not a creature was gasping from a single choke hold
The shin guards were hung by the entrance with care
In hopes that Sensei would put new ones there

Judoka were nestled all snug in their gis
With visions of fighters they could throw with ease
Sensei in his red gi, and sometimes in black
Would let them throw HIM and he'd land on his back

When out in the lobby there arouse such a fuss
I remembered the rule..."You'd better not cuss"
I bowed off the mat and rushed out of the door
Then I had to run back and I bowed once more

His Chi shined so bright, it emitted a glow
His aura so warm that it melted the snow!
The students who saw him began to applaud
what a wonderful visit... the great Sensei Clause!!! Harai goshi, Tai Otoshi, Seoi nage was ON!
Kumi kata, Uchi mata, foot sweeps, IPPON!!!
Choke holds, and arm bars...hip throws and falls
Leg reaps and foot sweeps, "You'll throw them All!!!" In a blinding whir, he taught one by one
The lessons were rough but we all still had fun
And when he was done at the end of the day
He chuckled and smiled, then shouted "Matai!" Without words, he taught us the Bushido Spirit
There was not a sound, but we could all hear it
We grew closer that day, as we do every year
When Sensei Claus comes to visit us here

When sure we had learned the Samurai's Way
He smiled, then shouted, "Keyotsuke, Rei!"
He bowed, and then tightened his magical sash
Rolled off the mat, and was out with a dash

And we smiled when we heard, as he rolled out of sight...
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good fight!!!" -Sensei Darian Stokes (a. K. A. Sensei Clause
(in tune to "The Night Before Christmas")

Bushido at the Samurai Slam SC State Championships

Happy Birthday to Vlad and Marat

Rain or shine...nothing stopped us from our get together this weekend. we still had good food and a fun time at the lake despite the threat of thunderstorm and rain. thanks to everybody who bought all the good food and to Sensei Mike who paid for the shelter rental. I may be the backbone of Bushido but you guys are its heart and soul! if you missed out on this one, don't worry oh, I'm going to try to plan another one!!! Go Bushido!!!

Bushido at the SC State Championships

Yesterday I took a handful of students to the South Carolina State Championships. We encountered some bad weather at the start and had to pull over for a bit but that did not deter us from our goal. The road trip was incredible and bonding, and reminded me of what Bushido was all about.
Cole Hutcherson competed in the senior division for the first time. Although he did not win he was very excited about his matches and fought hard and well. He came in fourth place

Daniel P. fought in two divisions. He came out with a silver medal. 2nd place South Carolina State Champion

Egor B. Also fought in two divisions and came out with bronze. 3rd place South Carolina State Champion.
although I had only three competitors at this tournament they represented the entirety of Bushido extremely well and I couldn't be more proud of them. Of course, as far as I'm concerned oh, they are all Champions! Go Bushido!!!

General information

Judo is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defense or combat, and a way of life. It is all of these and more. Kodokan Judo comes to us from the fighting system of feudal Japan. Founded in 1882 by Dr. Jigoro Kano, Judo is a refinement of the ancient martial art of Jujutsu. Dr. Kano studied these ancient forms and integrated what he considered to be the best of their techniques into what is now the modern sport of Judo. Judo was introduced into the Olympic Games in 1964 and is practiced by millions of people throughout the world today. People practice Judo to excel in competition, to stay in shape, to develop self-confidence, and for many other reasons. But most of all, people do Judo just for the fun of it. Judo, which is translated as the "gentle way", teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique. This is the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the performance of Judo throws and other skills. Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in Judo. For example, in Judo classes you may learn how to give way, rather than use force, to overcome a stronger opponent. The principles of Judo, such as "Maximum Efficiency" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit," can also be used in our dealings with others in life. The ultimate goal in Judo is to develop yourself to the maximum extent possible, always striving for perfection, so that you can contribute something of value to the world. As in all sports, Judo has a strict set of rules that govern competition and ensures safety. For those who want to test their skills, Judo offers the opportunity for competition at all skill levels, from club and national tournaments to the Olympic Games. There are separate weight divisions for men and women, and for boys and girls. Judo is best known for it's spectacular throwing techniques but also involves considerable grappling on the ground utilizing specialized pins, control holds, arm locks, and Judo choking techniques. Judo emphasizes safety and full physical activity for top conditioning. Judo is learned on special mats for comfort and safety. Judo is unique in that all age groups can participate together in learning and practicing the sport. Judo is an inexpensive, year-round activity that appeals to people from all walks of life. Judo develops self-discipline and respect for oneself and others. Judo provides the means for learning self-confidence, concentration, and leadership skills, as well as physical coordination, power, and flexibility. As a sport that has evolved from a fighting art, it develops complete body control, fine balance, and fast reflexive action. Above all, it develops a sharp-reacting mind well-coordinated with the same kind of body. Judo training gives a person an effective self-defense system if the need arises.
