Little Red River Fishing Report – Heber Springs, Arkansas 🎣

Summer is definitely here on the Little Red River. It was a hot one this weekend, but I spent the day doing what I love—throwing big streamers in high water in search of a trophy brown trout.

Earlier in the week, higher generation flows created excellent conditions for fishing from the boat and covering lots of water. By the weekend, generation was reduced to just a couple of hours overnight, creating ideal conditions for anglers looking to wade fish. Fishing was a little slower than expected, but that’s often the reality when you’re targeting larger fish. We covered a lot of water, caught a few rainbow trout, moved several smaller rainbows, and had one big brown trout show itself. Some days are about numbers, and some days are about the hunt for that fish you’ll never forget.

Even when the fishing is tough, it’s hard to beat a day on the Little Red River. The cool water, beautiful scenery, and chance at a trophy brown trout keep us coming back.

March 26th • Little Red River

Got to spend a few days on the water with some buddies from college, one of which is new to fly fishing.

Good nighttime generation set us up perfectly to target falling water each morning, and the brown trout didn’t disappoint. The streamer bite was productive till lunch, and we were fortunate enough to connect with a pair of quality fish measuring 20” and 21”.

Once the falling-water window closed, it was lights out rainbow fishing under an indicator. The rainbows kept the rods bent all day and gave our beginner plenty of opportunities to learn, hook fish, and build confidence.

Nothing beats sharing a boat with old friends, watching someone catch fish on a fly rod for the first time, and putting a few memorable brown trout in the net along the way.

January 9th • Little Red River

Had the opportunity to spend the day on the water with some good friends visiting from North Carolina.

With no generation all week, our plans for an all-day brown trout streamer bite never really developed. We adjusted the game plan and spent most of the day nymphing, which resulted in steady action and plenty of rainbows.

The highlight of the day was connecting with a few quality brown trout on streamers during the early morning window before the bite slowed down. Not exactly the trip we expected, but that’s fishing.

Good friends, beautiful weather, bent rods, and a few memorable browns made for a great day on the Little Red.
