Hightower vs Bronson - Which One Is Right For You?

Because the Hightower and Bronson models fall into the same basic intended use category of “Ready for almost anything” we get a lot of riders trying to figure out which of these two model is right for them. By the numbers they are very similar, except for the wheel size:

HIGHTOWER

Both also have our Glovebox in-frame storage, a Flip-Chip in the lower link to fine-tune the bikes geometry and suspension rate, our Sag Window for easy viewing/setting of shock sag, and both come in our C and CC Carbon options.

Details Matter: The Heckler SL - A Trail Bike With Hidden Superpowers

The Heckler SL often gets referred to as an ebike that doesn’t feel like an ebike. In a good way. It’s a natural handling trail bike, with a stealthy look and clean lines that are unmistakably Santa Cruz.
Riding the SL is surprisingly similar to riding its non-powered counterpart - the Bronson, which makes perfect sense as there is a big chunk of Bronson in the Heckler SL’s DNA - Same 150mm VPP rear wheel travel, same 160mm fork spec, same MX wheel platform, and extremely similar handling characteristics

Where these similarities depart is in the Heckler SL’s enhanced DNA - The aforementioned hidden superpowers.

The RIDE 60 motor’s natural feeling torque delivery feels like riding a normal mountain bike. Just with more a lot more punch. The range is similar to the full-power bikes because even though the battery is smaller, the RIDE 60 motor sips energy, and the significantly lighter bike makes the job of propulsion easier.

How much lighter?
the Heckler SL comes in under 41.74lb in the XO build. Full-power, big-battery ebikes typically land in the 50lb bike weight range.

How much power? The RIDE 60 provides class-leading 60 Nm of torque with extremely smooth power delivery that is almost silent and offers up 3 power modes to allow you to emphasize power, or range.

How much range? Ah, the dreaded range question. This is where we have to give a bunch of disclaimers like, “Range will vary based on rider input/power mode, terrain, amount of elevation gain, etc.” That said, the efficient drive unit and 430 Wh battery will give you similar range to a full power ebike with a 630 Wh battery. 20-30mile range with 4,000 ft of vertical, while using a mix of power modes seems to be pretty average from independent reviewers . Your mileage may vary.

What else? The Heckler SL comes with the usual features Santa Cruz is known for, like a Flip-Chip to fine-tune geometry and suspension kinematics, an extensive size range from Small - XXL, and a Lifetime frame warranty.
