Snug and secure in thigh hitch - knowing what locks it in gives you lots of room to safely play.

Exploring what makes it slide also gives you the control to lower with precision 🙌

Your thoughts on burnout and the risks/responsibilities that come with teaching aerial? ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Do you ever feel "scattered" when being taught a skill? And when you go to work on it solo everything organizes and feels coherent?

when a student is listening and following directions and being watched, that puts them in a certain cognitive space. It's a space of analysis, emulation, self-monitoring, prediction, and calculation.

this uses a part of the brain that is made for language processing - not sensory perception and embodied experience.

So in that space we are not easily sensing our bodies and intuitively self organizing and responding to the environment.

But without guidance, students would feel aimless, confused, and unaware of compensations.

So the answer is not total control
and it’s not completely unstructured exploration either.

A good instructor is not just giving corrections nonstop or abandoning students to “figure it out.” They’re shaping the conditions where intuition and self-organization become possible.

In other words, great teaching guides attention without hijacking the student’s own learning process.

Students don’t just need information.
They need enough space to actually feel, organize, and understand what their body is doing.

This is where we take things in the BLOOM aerial teacher training. Because good teaching is not more cues and spots. It's creating the conditions where the student can develop autonomy and inner intelligence in movement.

Something magical happens when you take a skill that's shutting you down and find a small part that feels accessible.

For bent or straight arm inverts - try taking it to the floor and experiencing a more supported version of the pathway.

This can help you make sense of where you need to engage and take away the stress of struggling on something you want to unlock. There is zero rush to get the next skill. Feel your body and let your intuition be part of the process too 🐆

Something I can be relied on for is drills that can be done lying down 🦥

any good name ideas for these?

🙌🏼When we train macro, we learn the big key movements and positions of aerial.

🔍When we train micro, we refine the details of the movement map and develop the skill of noticing.

💡Micro-movement training helps us to learn how to perceive smaller details in our bodies and apparatus behavior. This strengthens our ability to self-correct. It also supports a broader skillset in proprioception, feeling where we are in space.

👯‍♀️Teachers can include micro-explorations in class to support students' body awareness and autonomy. Remember that all students have different abilities in this area, and some bodies can't get as detailed a map as others even with practice.

🧐how can macro and micro work together? We'll be exploring topics like this in the BLOOM Aerial Teacher Training this Spring 🌸 DM for the waitlist - space is limited.

💡A hitched spanset can be a game-changer for aerialists familiarizing with knee hangs/ hocks hangs.

This tool allows the upper body to support the hang and gradually, safely load the hamstrings.

Just be sure to toss it over the shoulder or else you have it caught between your legs and it's not as accessible and clean.

Sometimes we need to build strength to get a full hang, but sometimes we just need to find and activate the muscles. This allows for that exploration without fear of falling :)

I use this with my students, and also sometimes offer the "hover over the ankles" spot but I love this option because it gives the aerialist full control.

It’s official 🙌🏼
I am so excited to be launching BLOOM, a formal hybrid aerial teacher training through Wakeful Ascent Aerial Arts. [DM directly or see link in bio for more info and the waitlist)]

⚡️This is a comprehensive, 3-month small cohort hybrid training designed for current or aspiring teachers who want to take their learning deeper. The focus is not only on “what” we teach but also on HOW teaching and learning actually work.

(And even though the voiceover says “silks” - we will also be studying aerial hoop and cross-apparatus movement patterns 😉)

🌀The program includes 3 months with an online cohort with live sessions and assignments, an in-person immersive retreat, and a month of continued integration and feedback. This pacing is intentional: it allows for depth, retention, and real knowledge development rather than rushed completion.

💡Part of how learning works is through spaced repetition - this timeline allows for you to integrate knowledge, not just be exposed to it.

➡️The training is built around four core pillars:
• Integrative pedagogy
• Technical mastery
• Embodied leadership
• Empowering students

❤️‍🔥This is a training designed for deeper learning, connection, and transformation. Because I know how powerful aerial can be - aerial changed the entire course of my life, and I've watched it change the lives of my students.

📩Details around retreat location and pricing are still underway. Because of the high-touch nature of this container, space will be limited.

⏳Enrollment is first come first serve, and those on the waitlist will receive the first invitation to apply. The list is growing! DM me directly for the link to learn more and join the waitlist for updates and priority enrollment

SO excited for all that lies ahead! 🤸🏼🪻🌸🌷🌻

👀How do we feel about making teaching easier, tiny spotted cats🐆, empowered students, and unicorn cues? 🦄Let’s talk! [comment “empowered” to get the masterclass directly] - FREE UNTIL 12/18!

The Empowered Teaching in Aerial Arts Masterclass pulls back the curtain on what is going on between the lines of aerial classes. We look at how the teacher influences nervous system dynamics, shapes the tone and values of the class, signals confidence and leadership qualities, and serves students with teaching techniques and cues that empower them over a short and long term.

In the masterclass I put words to so much of what you’ve observed as a student and a teacher and offer frameworks for navigating teaching with purpose and clarity.

Comment “empowered” and I will send it directly to you!
