A remotely operated vehicle (ROV) captured footage of thousands of Port Jackson sharks (*Heterodontus portusjacksoni*) sleeping together on the ocean floor in Beagle Marine Park, located in the Bass Strait, Australia, according to a report by IFL Science on August 15. These sharks were first discovered six years ago, and the research team returned to survey how conditions in the area have changed.

The World's Oldest Humpback Whale

Old Timer, a male humpback whale first photographed in 1972, was spotted last month in Alaska.

The tail of a humpback whale is unique, much like a fingerprint. The flukes of these whales have distinctive ridges that differ from one individual to another. When Adam A. Pack, a marine mammal researcher at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, photographed whales in Frederick Sound, Alaska, in July, he immediately recognized the tail flukes of an "old friend." The tail, mostly black with specks of white near the edges, belonged to a whale named Old Timer. First seen in 1972, Old Timer is now at least 53 years old, making him the "oldest humpback whale in the world," according to Pack, co-founder and president of The Dolphin Institute.

Rare Triton's Trumpet Snail Rediscovered After 20 Years

A Triton's trumpet snail weighing over 2.6 kg has been discovered by fishermen after 20 years of absence.

The management of the Marine Protected Area reported that they had returned the Triton's trumpet snail, which weighs more than 2.6 kg and measures 44 cm in length, to the sea after it was caught by a fisherman. Since 2004, no Triton's trumpet snails had been recorded in the area.
