These boys had themselves a weekend to say the least. Dominated every game until we fell short in the Championship game by 1 run. Our pitchers dealt, our hitters pounded the ball. These kids have struggled all year, but have found it in June. Proud of these guys! One more to go!

When we decided to have two 9U Rattlers teams, we knew moments like this would eventually come. Honestly, as a coach, I always thought I’d dread the day our Rattlers brothers faced each other in a Sunday elimination game. Because no matter the outcome, one side would walk away hurting. I figured I’d leave feeling sad either way.

But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

From the very first pitch, both teams battled their hearts out in a game that stayed competitive until the final inning. We may have ended up on the losing side, but I didn’t leave sad. I left proud and encouraged. Coach Hall and I accomplished exactly what we set out to do.

There’s no “A” team, there’s no “B” team. There were 21 nine-year-old boys getting the opportunity to play baseball on a Sunday morning, in the drizzling rain, with Lake Area Rattlers across their chest. Every single one of them played with heart, passion, and most importantly, class.

Reminded me that this isn’t about wins, rings, or bragging rights. It’s about giving these boys a place to play the game they love and creating memories they’ll carry with them forever.
