Malaria Matters

A campaign designed by Harvard Malaria Competition winner Ukachi Emeruwa to harness the compassion & reach of the community in the fight against malaria.

Malaria Matters was created and produced by Ukachi Emeruwa, a Masters in Public Health student at the Harvard School of Public Health. The fundraising and awareness campaign is sponsored by an award from Malaria No More and co-sponsored by Harvard's Defeating Malaria initiative and Nothing But Nets. From March 31 to April 4, Malaria Matters brings you "Visions From the Field", a cross-university p

hoto exhibit displaying images of malaria from around the world. All photos were made available courtesy of the Swiss Malaria Group. Then, on April 25, this World Malaria Day, the Malaria Matters campaign will culminate in a community-wide 5K walk/jog/run. Ukachi invites you to be a part of Team Malaria Matters and participate in "Miles Against Malaria" on April 25 at the DCR Artesani Herter Park. World Malaria Day Schedule:

12:00 – 1:00 PM Open registration, check-in, & t-shirt collection
1:00 PM Opening events: introduction, speaker, performances
1:30 PM 5K Walk/Jog/Run Start Time
2:30 PM Awards Ceremony and closing events

About the organizer:

Ukachi Emeruwa is a California-born Nigerian-American student currently pursuing her MPH at the Harvard School of Public Health. She received her BA in Economics with a certificate in Global Health and Health Policy from Princeton University in 2010. Thereafter, she was accepted to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where she began her medical education. Ukachi has always had a passion for public health and in 2013, took leave from Columbia to enroll at HSPH. This June, she will return to Columbia to complete her medical studies and graduate in 2015 with a dual MD/MPH degree. She plans to complete her training as an obstetrician/gynecologist and go on to practice as a physician and public health practitioner in underserved communities both in the U.S. and abroad.

World Malaria Day is finally here! And "Miles Against Malaria" won't be the same without you.
