Thank you to everyone involved from youth through high school!!!

Do you know who doesn't get enough credit in youth sports?

The leaders behind the organizations.

The presidents and VPs.
The treasurers and coordinators.
The board members
The volunteers.

They certainly take a lot of heat, don't they?
But do they get the accolades they deserve, too?

Because the truth is...
There is no season without these invididuals who step up.
There are no funds raised for equipment and rent and fees.
There are no schedules to download.
There are no refs or umps scheduled to show up.
There is no gym/field/ice time secured.
There is no food at the concession stand.
There are no uniforms to wear.
There is no game location to check in the app.
There is no communication to keep parents in the loop.

There is NONE of that..... if we don't have the support of these people who step up and volunteer their time to make it happen.

In youth sports you hear a lot of the complaints about how things could be done better.

Heck I'm sure many of these leaders will be the first to admit there's always room to grow.

But for our kids to be able to play the sports they love, we need people behind the scenes willing to volunteer their time to make it happen.

Is it always perfect?
No.
But do we always need people to step up and try?
Yes.

So if there's someone behind the scenes who helps make your athlete's season possible...
Don't forget to thank them.

Congratulations and Welcome Coach May!

GlenOak Athletics is excited to announce Abigail May as the new Head Girls Lacrosse Coach!

Coach May brings a strong playing background, leadership experience, and a passion for developing young athletes. A four-year varsity goalie and two-time team captain at Marietta, she earned multiple conference and academic honors throughout her collegiate career.

May has been part of the GlenOak Girls Lacrosse program since January 2025 as an assistant coach, she also serves as an intervention specialist at GlenOak High School! She is currently an assistant coach on the GlenOak Girls Cross Country Team and has coached with Athena Lacrosse Club since 2023.

Coach May will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 30th in room A112 from 2:30-3:00!

Each day, deputies from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office serve our schools as trusted members of the Plain Local community. We are grateful for the countless ways they support our students, staff, and families.

WELCOME Mr Sasala!

Meet one of our “New People in Plain,” Kyle Sasala!

Kyle is serving as our new Athletic Director at GlenOak High School. He joins Plain Local after spending the past four years as the Athletic Director at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. He also previously served as an athletic director in the Cincinnati/Dayton area.

Fun fact: Kyle has traveled to both Italy and Greece! This summer, he balanced the transition to Plain Local with plenty of time spent with family and friends.

Kyle is most excited about the opportunity to make an impact on our students and student-athletes while building strong relationships with faculty, staff, parents, students, and the entire Plain Local community.

WELCOME Mrs Pickering

"Meet one of our “New People in Plain,” Alison Pickering!

She is already a familiar face in Plain Local, having previously served as head secretary at GlenOak High School as well as secretary for the Curriculum Department. She is now moving into the role of executive secretary for the GlenOak High School Athletic Department.

Fun fact: Alison has a love for all things Golden Eagle! She has a lot of houseplants in her office, loves Spirit Week and dressing up, and owns more green and gold clothing than any other color.

This summer, Alison enjoyed a family vacation to Seagrove Beach, Florida, with a stop in Nashville along the way. She also spent time swimming in her pool and enjoying a day at Cedar Point.

As a GlenOak graduate who still lives down the road from where she grew up, Alison is pictured with her family: her son Ryder (Class of 2028), husband of 17 years John, and son Gage (Class of 2029).

WELCOME Mr Matthew

"Meet one of our “New People in Plain,” Thomas Matthew!

Thomas will serve as the Athletic Office Manager at GlenOak High School. He joins Plain Local with a strong background in athletics, including serving as an Assistant Athletic Director at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and working in Student-Athlete Support Services at the University of Cincinnati. He is currently learning from Office Manager Tim Beitler before he retires later this year.

Fun fact: Thomas was a Division I swimmer for the University of Cincinnati! This summer, Thomas enjoyed traveling and working, including trips to St. Thomas and New Jersey.

Thomas is excited to work with an amazing athletic staff and gain experience while building connections with our youth programs and the next generation of Golden Eagles.
