This is the time of the year when I post this every year.
Attention College Freshmen Moving Into Dorms This Month
A little request…
When your mom wants to unpack your clothes and make your bed — let her.
When your dad wants to introduce himself to everyone on your floor — let him.
When they want to take pictures of every move you make — smile for them.
If they embarrass you or act a little crazy — embrace it.
As you start this exciting new chapter of your life, remember: they’re starting a new chapter too. And believe it or not, this may be harder for them than it is for you. So let them treat you like their “baby” one last time.
Go Buffs! 🦬💛🖤

I need for the WT Bowling Community to help me with a project that I have started. Bryan Crabtree and I want to develop a list of all of the past WT Bowlers from 1976-2020. This will require a lot of communication with each other and tagging people in this post. But with social media I believe we can get a comprehensive list for me to put together and for everyone to enjoy. Here is your mission should you decide to accept it: State your name, the years you were at WT, and list at minimum five of your teammates from the same time period. For example:
Mark Scroggins 1982-1986
1. Jack Jurek
2. Marc McDowell
3. Mike Scott
4. Paul Fabianski
5. Scott Cox
You can also add a story or two that reminds you of the good times while you were at West Texas, here is mine:
It was Thanksgiving weekend in November 1985, and we were in St. Louis for the Collegiate Match Games—the biggest tournament of the year outside of Nationals. Our West Texas State team had been rolling through our conference, but this was our first true test on the national stage. Just days before, the Bowler’s Writers Association had released their rankings, and there we were—WT, ranked No. 1 in the country. We hadn't faced the big guns yet, but word had spread. We could feel the weight of that ranking the moment we walked into the center. Heads turned, whispers followed us. Everyone wanted a piece of us.
Our team was stacked—Jack Jurek, Marc McDowell, Mike Scroggins, Mike Scott, Paul Fabianski, and me. We had chemistry, we had talent, and most importantly, we had confidence. But we didn’t realize just how fired up other teams were to take us down—until the very first frame.
As warm-ups ended, we settled in, ready to start strong. The team next to us—Erie CC, I think—was on the approach first. Their leadoff bowler let his shot fly, smashed the pocket, and struck. But instead of just walking back, he ran straight onto our lane, fist pumping, and shouted, “That’s in your face, WT!”
For a second, we just stood there, glancing at each other. No words needed to be spoken. We knew. They weren’t just bowling against us; they were out to beat us. And in that instant, something clicked. A silent agreement passed between us—Alright, you just woke up a sleeping giant.
The next few hours were a blur of strikes, precision, and pure dominance. We came out firing, torching the lanes with a 1235 in our first game. The statement was made. And by the time the tournament wrapped up, there was no doubt—we didn’t just live up to our ranking; we proved it.
Looking back, that moment still sticks with me. Not just because of the win, but because of the camaraderie we had. That team wasn’t just good—we were special. And man, was it fun to bowl with those guys.
