The Lynch Who Stole Christmas from the GrYnch Toy Drive is in full swing!

Since 2010, this annual holiday drive has served hundreds of local families, assuring that over 9,000 children have a gift to unwrap on Christmas morning.

This past Saturday, the Pinch the GrYnch Boardwalk 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk was held, with all proceeds going to this great cause.

This video, courtesy of our pal John Lynch (The Lunch With Lynch Foundation), features the sights, sounds of the event, which is presented by DelMoSports Inc. in partnership with the City of Wildwood Police Department.

“This is one of the most fun events I get to be a part of throughout the course of the year,” said Lynch. “The festive spirit of the season and the caring generosity of our community was once again on full display!”

Next up is “Breakfast with the GrYnch” this Saturday, December 17 at Key West Cafe (4401 Pacific Avenue), where guests can enjoy a free breakfast with donation of a toy.

This weekend has been an EPIC one in the world of running, including for many of our runners, who we will feature in the coming days. We have had a thrilling morning watching the runner trackers for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Steamtown Marathon, but first up, and not to be overshadowed by the marathon distance, Ann D. CRUSHED her tune-up half marathon today, the DelMoSports Inc. Crest Best Run Fest. Ann is a masters runner (55-59 age group) who came to us after she finished the October 2021 Boston Marathon. That training cycle had taken a lot out of her, and she felt depleted by the time she got to race day. She was looking for coaches to help her reach her goals with a realistic training schedule, so that she could feel less broken down by the time she got to her 2022 goal, the TCS New York City Marathon. Over the spring and summer, we've worked on whittling down her half marathon times, which we expect to translate into not only faster times at the marathon distance, but feeling stronger through at that distance, as well. Ann went into today's race with a half marathon PR of 1:51:53. We knew from her training that she was in good condition and encouraged her to push for a sub-1:50 finish today. Ann BLEW THROUGH that goal and finished in 1:47:35, placing first in her 55-59 age group and also taking second place overall Masters Female! She told us, "I never felt like I was struggling or exerting myself. I felt really good after I finished so I know there was more in the tank. For once, it went exactly as planned." We know Ann has more in the tank as she looks forward to NYC in just four weeks. Congrats, Ann!!
Tyler Norris stopped by The Gym for a workout and we can had a great time discussing our collab with World Fit this Saturday! Don't forget to register for the FREE pop-up bootcamp class with Tyler and Mario Vassal during the Crest Best Run Fest registration at 2 PM at Centennial Park. My wife and my therapist. This is what it takes to get through the tough days. It’s ok to be vulnerable. You’re human. Recognize it. Then go out and crush it.

08/25/2023

The purpose of this video is to inform you that we care about you. Today was a very difficult day setting up, and we are aware all of you are excited to race tomorrow. However, we do not let excitement get in the way of making sound and safe decisions. We are monitoring everything about this race. Please know that, like life, the unexpected can happen, and you need to be ready to pivot. The goal is that we produce the 20th anniversary of Tri the Wildwoods in its original format, but we know things can change. Know that any changes that may occur are done so with your safety, and the safety of all involved as priority #1.

my advice to you is to get a great nights, sleep, and know we are all blessed to get together and do what mother nature allows us to do tomorrow.

See you at the starting line!

August Newsletter Athlete Highlight:

Meet Steve DeHorsey, member of the Wild Harbor Triathlon Club and loyal DelMo athlete!

1. What is your favorite DelMoSports event to race and why?
My favorite race is ETC. I've jumped about 7 times with my first being in 2016. Twelve hours after I crossed the finish line, my daughter Nora was born. I also did this race with a group of college buddies. It is a race I/We will never forget.

2. What is your favorite workout song?
My favorite workout song is a variety of Taylor Swift & any song that allows my mind to wander. "Hall of Fame" is my go to right before a race.

3. Favorite pre-race meal?
My pre-race meal will include pasta or steak or something I can fill up on.

4. What is your race mantra‍
My race mantra is enjoy the experience, embrace the training & suck up the entire day. I try not to take anything for granted.

5. What is your favorite memory from a DelMoSports event?
My favorite memory other than my first race is my first 70.3 (IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City). I was able to finish in under 6 hours. Every aspect of the race was just like I trained & I felt so strong & excited that day.

6. What does your training look like right now?
I am currently training for IM Lake Placid. This will be the most I have ever trained and currently training 6-7 days a week.

7. What is your goal for this upcoming season?
My goal for the season is to do my first ever relay. As my wife & I race IMAC for the last time. This was my first 70.3 and the last race a dear friend of mien did before he passed away from cancer. It will be an emotional day on many levels and a race I will never forget.

8. Tell us three things we should know about you.‍
- I was a volunteer for the first ever Tri the Wildwoods.
- I love triathlon because of the mental side of the sport & how in the end, the race is only with yourself.
- My kids have watched me race all of my races & it has taught them that you can do anything and even on days you struggle, smile and keep moving forward.

August Newsletter, From the Race Director: Have I Lost My Touch?

AGITA (n.) a feeling of anxiety. This word was used mainly by Italian American and Yiddish-speaking persons.

Proudly, I am 100% of Italian descent. My mother was born in Italy and emigrated to Philadelphia in the 60's. My father's mother was born in Italy, and his father's parents all emigrated nearly a century ago. Thus, I have heard the word AGITA my entire life, mainly surrounding my antics as a teenager and aspiring entrepreneur. "Stephen, why do you do these things, Ugh, you give me AGITA!"

AGITA is what I felt leading up to the Atlantic City Triathlon. Although this was the 13th year producing the event, there was an uneasiness surrounding my soul. As you all know, last month World Triathlon Corporation made the decision to discontinue 70.3 Atlantic City in 2024, and even though I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work within their amazing organization no one feels good about receiving their walking papers, especially when you feel like you're at the top of your game. It's only natural to want to "Play Forever." But it is what it is.

So why was I feeling anxious leading up to the Atlantic City Triathlon? Over the past 12 years, we have had 5 different finish lines and 2023 would introduce the sixth. If you're wondering where they all were, I'll help you out:

2011: On the boardwalk in front of Bally's
2012-13: Main runway of Bader Field
2014-15: Rounding the loop of Bader Field
2016-19: Kennedy Plaza
2021-22: Mississippi Ave Beach

For me, I wanted TRI AC to be "easier" for athletes, spectators, and quite frankly, us as producers. Since 2016, we've had to shuttle our athletes back to Bader Field and that can be a hassle for some and even a barrier for others. Additionally, I've always felt like our event gets swallowed in the center of town due to the high-octane nature of Atlantic City. So, after last year's race, I was determined to find a solution.

And I did...or at least I thought I did.

In my heart and in my mind, a beach finish at Albany Avenue was the perfect location to do what we do: Beach Finish Festival. It's our hallmark at Tri the Wildwoods and this would be the final iteration in our search for a new finish line. I was CERTAIN of it. Would my team think so? Would the athletes? I didn't know and, with all due respect, I didn't care. Sink or swim, this was all going to ride on my 'feel.'

Then came event week and all the doubt set in compounding on recent events and I was nearly certain everyone was going to hate it. Changing the finish line of any event is a BIG DEAL and this was not just a change, we were talking about an entirely new location completely different from what we have ever done. WHAT WAS I THINKING? WHY DO I CHANGE THINGS? In his book, "Courage Over Confidence," Dr. Mitchell Greene of Greenepsych Sport Psychology calls this, "Mind Chatter" and I was suffering in the worst way. My blood pressure was through the roof, and I couldn't sleep. The night before the event I was wide awake, talking with my wife on the phone explaining these awful feelings, and as usual she was masterful at helping me put them to rest.

So, what happened? I put all the agita aside and trusted the fact that no one has produced more big scale triathlons in the greater Philadelphia area than our crew, and no one knows how to meld swim, bike, run in Atlantic City like we can. That's what I held in my head as I walked and talked with athletes. This is our domain. This is where we shine, and shine we did. Our event was, well, a DelMo Event . I was walking from transition to finish (.5mi) and the complements/selfies coming from athletes returning were everything I thought they would be. We had smiles for miles and grand displays of gratitude; this is why we do what we do.

The realization. It only took 13 years, but we have successfully figured out how to produce an amazing Sprint/Olympic triathlon in Atlantic City. My instincts were correct. My team absolutely nailed their responsibilities. The athletes brought all the good vibes, and we all strolled back to Bader Field together. This was our journey over the past 13 years. Everything is always evolving and we're simply refining our touch.

Our Story

Who is DelMoSports? What is DelMoSports? Great question. We are what is possible…just like you. We are what can happen when you refuse to settle for “that’s fine.” Have you had those thoughts run through your head? That things are “good enough?” We have those thoughts too. The DelMo Difference is in the details. From our world class customer service, to checking off the boxes that make DelMoSports New Jersey’s best triathlon series. We sweat the details for our athletes. We think like you, because we are you, we always have YOUR best interest at heart. Is that all? No. There is an intangible that we cannot explain as well. When an athlete steps into one of our races…something is different. There is an energy that only other athletes who have ‘taken the leap’ can describe. We believe DelMoSports is New Jersey’s Best Triathlon Series. We believe if you do the work, commit yourself, and stay positive that anything is possible. We believe these are the key ingredients in the recipe that makes the DelMo Difference.

DelMoSports, Inc. is a boutique race company founded in 2004, specializing in elite destination events along the southern New Jersey shore and Delaware.
