GateGard inventor, Shawn Plaxco experienced first-hand the need for a reliable gate latch when, as a firefighter, he responded to the drowning death of a 4 year old boy in the family swimming pool. Shawn found the pool enclosure fence had a commonly used gravity latch on the gate. This type of gate latch sometimes fails to latch when the gate is closed too fast, leaving the pool area unsecured. As a result, Shawn invented the GateGard latch.
