This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 31, 1976 (50 Years Ago) - Cascade High School administrators announce that the Cougar will be the new school’s mascot, with Columbia blue, navy blue, and gold serving as the school colors. Those were the top choices in a poll of students attending the new school.

This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 30, 1976 (50 Years Ago) - The very first Cascade High School athletic competition sees the Cougar baseball team, while still wearing the previous summer's Aquin uniforms, defeat Don Bosco 8-5. Third baseman Mark Neiers led the Cascade attack, going 2-3 with two runs scored, while driving in the go-ahead run.

Cougar alum Jordan Weber will have his "jersey" retired by the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday, October 31.

This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 9, 2016 (10 Years Ago) - For the seventh time in program history, the Cascade baseball team lands multiple players on the All-State first team, as pitcher Trace Hoffman (pictured) and outfielder Kurt Trumm both receive the recognition from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Hoffman is also named to the first team by the Iowa Newspaper Association and Des Moines Register.

This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 8, 2001 (25 Years Ago) - The Cascade baseball team lands a player on the All-State first team for the sixth consecutive season as Kris Wolfe ( #2 below) is chosen as an outfielder by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Wolfe and Kyle McDermott are also Honorable Mention All-State selections by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 7, 1996 (30 Years Ago) - Cougar softball battery-mates Molly Driscoll and Lori Turnis are each named All-State by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Turnis is named a third team pitcher, earning her second All-State honor. Driscoll is selected as a fifth team catcher after being named Honorable Mention the previous two seasons.

Congratulations to the four Cougar baseball players have recently received All-State honors for their performances in leading the team to the State semifinals this year. This is the first time since 2007 that Cascade has had four All-State players!

Here's the rundown:
🥇 First Team: Jackson Green (Des Moines Register, IHSBCA) and Brody Otting (IHSBCA)
🥈 Second Team: Leo Noonan (IHSBCA) and Tyler Smith (IHSBCA)

This Day in Cougar Athletics: August 4, 2011 (15 Years Ago) - The Iowa Newspaper Association names Cascade outfielder Regan Takes to its All-State squad, making him the first Cougar to earn All-State recognition in both baseball and basketball in the same year. Takes earns a spot on the INA’s Class 2A baseball second team, after being named a first-teamer in basketball the previous winter.
