Judo, translated from Japanese, means “the gentle way.” This is due to many techniques used in judo that require a person to give way to the force used by an opponent. By giving way, you allow the opponent’s own force to be used against them. Judo was developed by an educator, Dr. Jigoro Kano, in 1882. It is one of the most popular sports practiced worldwide. Why should we study it? Dr. Kano, the

Stop Arguing! Focus on Skill, Not Terminology 05/26/2026

This really was an interesting conversation, started by a martial arts instructor that teaches in Japan...

Probably the last "short" of that recent podcast I will post up on the club page.

BOTTOM LINE: Should you know proper judo terminology? YES, it is important. It universally speaks to the mechanics/gross motor movements. It is also part of the culture/history of the art we study.

Is the terminology worth the judo snobbery that you see online? I don't think so, I think that kind of attitude actually hurts us. Bring people in, help educate...don't be haughty about grappling.

Stop Arguing! Focus on Skill, Not Terminology Who has time to argue about terminology online? The real question i...

This morning, staff from the Seton House were on the mats over at PRJ!

We spent a few hours going over some fundamentals of grappling and how they can be used in self-defense situations. And this was just the first in a series of sessions.

We all know how tough it can be to get out of our comfort zone and learn something new...

These ladies worked hard and had fun while gaining some skills! Thank you for spending the morning with us!! Looking forward to our next session.

Lastly, if you aren't familiar with who they are or the work they do at the Seton House, head over to their page/site and check them out. They do wonderful work in the community!

Another long weekend/fast trip is in the books! This time, we were in Farmington, UT.

We had 3 judoka, that are also wrestlers, that were representing Wyoming in one of the toughest events out there: The USA Western Regional Championships. Over 2200 athletes from 11 states vying for a spot on the podium.

It isn't judo, but you know by now that "Good grappling is good grappling." Cross-training and competition is one of the fastest routes to growth.

TEEGAN - 1st in Greco-Roman, and 2nd in Freestyle. Double podium, double Finalist? That's a pretty dominant performance. Outstanding job!

BO- Didn't place in Greco-Roman, but wrestled extremely well, including a tough loss in the blood round. He stepped up and battled his way to 3rd in Freestyle.

LANDON- Threw and pinned his way to 2nd Place in Greco-Roman. Though he didn't place in Freestyle, he wrestled some gritty matches and even had a 20 second pin via uchi mata.

We are extremely proud of your effort, sportsmanship, and results, Gentlemen.

We'll see you all back on the mats!
