Nerve Tensioner or Sciatic N Flossing? For sciatic nerve mobilization, the choice between a flossing (slider) technique and a tensioner depends mainly on irritability and your treatment goal.
🟢 Flossing / Slider (2nd video)
Use when:
* Symptoms are acute, irritable, or easily aggravated
* Goal is to improve neural excursion/mobility without putting much sustained tension on the nerve
* Good if you have pain with neural loading but tolerates gentle movement
* I use it early in rehab or as a home exercise
How it works: One end of the nerve pathway is tensioned while the other is simultaneously released—creating a “sliding” motion rather than holding the nerve under tension.
🟠 Tensioner (1st video)
Use when:
* Symptoms are less irritable
* For my patient who has good tolerance to neural loading
* You are further along in rehabilitation
* The goal is to improve neural mechanosensitivity/tolerance to sustained or greater neural strain
How it works: Both ends of the neural system are moved into positions that increase tension simultaneously.
Ask Your PT for modifications or alternate position if needed.
