The 9s hit the road this past weekend to race the 1st leg of the AJC Mid America Series at Atwater Karting Speedway. After the previous weekend, we went with 1 goal...capture the 🏁!

Unfortunately, the weekend started and ended with 🌧. I guess we all come to expect that whenever Adam tries to put on a show. πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ Despite the rain, the event was great and the crew at Atwater did an amazing job, the track was incredible!

Saturday
πŸ‘‰ Stock Light Mid America - Q2, Finish P1! 🏁
πŸ‘‰ Jody's Stock Light - Q4, Finish P1! 🏁
πŸ‘‰ Stock Heavy Mid America - Q3, Finish P2
πŸ‘‰ Jody's Stock Heavy - Q8, Finished P1! 🏁

Saturday was a fun day, unloaded with speed and winning 3 of 4 was simply incredible. The cool trophies are what its about...2 cones and a roulette wheel check are pretty cool! 😎

Sunday
Unfortunately, Sunday ended with the dreaded 🌧. We were able to race a couple heats to set 2 of the features, complete one feature and Qualify for the other 3. Finishing results based on Qualifying.

πŸ‘‰ Pro Stock Light - Qualified 1st!
πŸ‘‰ Pro Stock Heavy - Qualified 6th
πŸ‘‰ Stock Light Mid America - Q3, Finish 8th
πŸ‘‰ Stock Heavy Mid America - Qualified 1st!
πŸ‘‰ All Pro Memorial - Qualified 4th

In the end, we had a great weekend at the track doing what we love.

Big thanks to Waller for the bad fast HP and at track support, Tae for capturing all the racing moments on video, mom for yelling from the fence and keeping everyone fed and grandma and grandpa for coming to cheer on the 9s!

Chasing 🏁 and making memories!

Not the crew chief or racer here...the "SL" momma as my boys call me. (Don't ask, we ain't answering) It is not lost on us that we "GET TO" do this. We don't have to. We "GET TO". Let that sink in. We ALL "GET TO".

After last weekend our racer reminded me that Ephesians calls us to find joy in all things. Well kiddo, not there yet. I found no joy in last weekend. But we are coming back for redemption. They are better than that!

What I do find joy and trust in is my crew chief and driver. Let's do this! To God be the Glory!

As promised, full recap from the 1st leg of the Maxxis Midwest series race at Atwater Karting Speedway.

Practice and Qualifying showed the 9s had the speed to contend and race for some wins, unfortunately our results were not reflective of what we've come to expect.

A promising start to our day ended in bitter disappointment.

Stock Heavy Feature - Qualified 5th, Finished 9th.
πŸ‘‰Wrong tire selection and just didn't have the speed until the last 4 laps of the race.

Stock Heavy Prelude - Qualified 7th, Finished 12th.
πŸ‘‰Got stuck on the outside on the 1st lap and went all the way back to 20th. Fought hard to get back to 12th.

Pro Stock Heavy - Qualified 2nd, Finished 12th.
πŸ‘‰ Ran in top 3 all race, had the speed to compete for the win but got ran over with 4 to go and then to compound it got left rear wheel hopped on the backstretch.

The car ride home was pretty quiet. Frustrating weekends at the race track are the worst!

Up next ➑️ back to Atwater for the 1st AJC Mid America Series races...hoping for some redemption!

The 9s is parked at Atwater Karting Speedway for the 1st leg of the Maxxis Midwest series race! The track is bad fast, awesome job by the Atwater crew.

Completed practice last night and just finished Qualifying. Features are up next!

30 Adult Clone drivers checked in this weekend, amazing talent that will make up the 20 kart field in each of the 3 features tonight.

Stock Heavy - Qualified 5th
Stock Heavy Prelude - Qualified 7th
Pro Stock Heavy - Qualified 2nd! Just missed the pole by .02.

Full recap coming later!

The 9s went to Delaware Speedway Saturday night for the double feature event. The entire crew at Delaware did an amazing job, the track was smooth and fast, but still very technical and challenging for the drivers...

The 9s didn't have a great night but turned it around for feature 2.

Heat - Started 4th, Finished 3rd
Feature 1 - Started 6th, Finished 4th
Feature 2 - Started 3rd, Finished 2nd

Went from running 12.8 second laps in feature 1 to setting the fast lap time of 12.2 in feature 2.

One of these nights we will crack victory lane and get the monkey off our back.

Congrats to Jaxon and Logan for their feature wins, Waller Racing LLC HP! 🏁🏁

Up next --> Atwater for the 1st leg of the Maxxis Midwest series!

🀣🀣🀣 Alright lets set the record straight. We have received SOOOOO many texts, messages, etc. We would have never said anything because, well y'all know us and for sure know we would NEVER cheat!

Yes we decided to go mess around at a "local" to us track last night --> Delaware.

We have wanted to try to go from time to time to support local when we can since we drive all over to race most of the time. We have wanted to celebrate what they are doing at Delaware.

Yes we got DQ'd for "illegal gas". Comical to say the least. We got third, no pay out (that we know of and don't care honestly), and no spec fuel location. Just 87 octane from anywhere.

Here is my receipt world (2 gals in truck first, rest in gas container)....you be the judge. 🀣🀣🀣

Day 2 at the Cedar Lake Arena Kart Racing for the Spring Rumble is in the books.

Day 2 came with some levels of frustration, starting the day with changing our motor due to error by the crew chief...to being sent to the back multiple times. In the end I think the 9s passed 100 karts. 🀣

πŸ‘‰ Adult 375 - Qualified 7th. Finished 3rd. Had a bad fast kart, went quick time in the race, just made some errors that cost an opportunity to race for the win.

πŸ‘‰ Adult Pro 375 - Qualified 5th. Finished 3rd.The race was challenging to say the least...we'll leave it at that. One thing for sure though, the driver drives pretty dang well when he's angry. 😎

Solid results this weekend, had the kart, the tires and the speed for a win... maybe next time Cedar Lake!

Huge thanks to Waller Racing LLC for the HP and at track support, Cole Sharp for tire advice and driver tips and C&D Construction (aka Grandpa) for the sponsorship!

Up next --> Not sure yet! 😁

Day 2 at Cedar Lake Arena Kart Racing for the Spring Rumble. What an amazing track this year!

Day 1 was a good start to the weekend for the 9s!

πŸ‘‰ Adult 375 - Qualified 3rd, Finished 3rd. Had a bad fast kart and battled for 2nd for the entire race. Congrats to Drew Alton for driving away from the field.

πŸ‘‰ Pro Adult 375 - Qualified 6th. Starting on the outside is really tough, dropped all the way back to 12th. 30 laps to make it all up! Once again, kart was Awesome! The 9s did his job and drove it to finish 2nd... needed a lap or 2 more and just maybe would've had the 🏁🏁!

2 more features on tap today, looking for that 1st win of the 2026 season.

Chasing 🏁 and making memories!

Huge Thanks to Waller Racing LLC for the HP and at track support, Cole Sharp for the tire advice and driver coaching and C&D construction (aka Grandpa) for the sponsorship. 😁

As promised a weekend recap:

Karting is a sport of passion, without the passion there would be no reason to keep pushing forward, to press limits in what we can do and to test our abilities against top tier talent in this sport. This past weekend was a perfect example of just that, 37 of the best karts across the Midwest showed up at Emma for the annual Winter Classic.

At the end of the day, unfortunately not all 37 get an opportunity to race. Only 20 make each feature event and sometimes making those features comes down to .001 seconds!

The 9s had a number of Firsts this year at Emma, here are a few:

🏁 1st time we made all the features in round 1 of qualifying (no added stress of having to go thru 2nd Chance to make the show)!

🏁 1st time the 9s led laps at Emma during the winter classic!

🏁 1st time we had multiple top 5s, not just 1 but 3 across the 4 Features!

It's that last Feature that stung the most, one of the crown jewels in karting so to speak, 50 laps and to the winner is a nice 2k pay day. Running in the top 5 for most of the event is a far cry from being lapped in the same event last year. Getting 3 laps from the Finish and from a Top 2 and maybe a battle with a legend of the Sport for the win unfortunately slipped out of our hands...

Having a shot to win one of these doesn't happen very often and that's what hurts the most. Negative feelings emerge, things are said and the time and energy feels wasted. We all experience it, but that is also what makes us stronger!

As the hours and time passes though, I look back and see the respect the 9s has on and off the track, the time spent enjoying something we love and know that everyone that shows up does the same, the camaraderie we have with the competition and ultimately the joy we experience every time we get an opportunity to hit the track!

Special Thanks to those that keep the 9s going:
βœ…οΈ Chad Waller and Waller HP - priceless help and amazing HP!
βœ…οΈ Cole Sharp for always allowing me to bounce tire ideas off of.
βœ…οΈ Eddie Brose for the laughs and always encouraging the 9s!
βœ…οΈ Adam Johnson for being the title sponsor, sponsorships matter and without it karting would suffer.
βœ…οΈ The competition in the Adult class and those who make their way into the 9s pit to talk, ask questions or just offer a handshake for a job well done.
βœ…οΈ C&D Construction aka Grandpa for his support of our passion.
βœ…οΈ And last but certainly not least my wife for putting up with countless hours in the garage and managing the 9s budget! πŸ˜…

Up next ➑️ Spring Thaw at Cedar Lake in April! Time to take the successes of the Fall Rumble last year and turn it into some wins!

As a crew chief I have never been more proud of this kid than I am tonight. He showed up this weekend and he showed what he was made of. Talent. Passion. Drive. Grit. He has it all!

What happened tonight was wrong. And those who know...YOU know. With 3 laps and his to potentially win....what a travesty! A 17 yr old kid challenges you. That is amazing. THAT is next-generation! THAT is bringing karting back. We will take that challenge any day of the week!

So, let this drive him. Let this drive him this season. Anger is powerful. But true grit, passion, drive, talent, and integrity always wins!

2026....we are here for it! Let this two man team challenge you all to be better and do better. We are a team of two serving the one!

That is all we have for tonight until we arrive home at 5ish am. More weekend updates to come. Safe travels racing fam! Fun to race with y'all!
