It's unofficial as of yet but after a very competitive event in stock all wheel drive Sean is taking home the 2nd place trophy. Big thanks to Jay Kurth at Jayko Performance for the loan of a set of good mud tires used in heat 1 Saturday and for getting rusti back into shape after she lost 2nd gear at September's event. Also big big thanks to Rusti for not breaking.

Two Iowa amateurs take on SCCA Rallycross!
Sorry for the late update of last weekends triple event. Prep for nationals took priority. I am sitting watching the practice course as I update all of you.
The daytime event on Saturday was a lot of fun with a fast 85 second course. After a dismal start, Sean missed a gate on his first run putting him 10 seconds behind right at the start. After some serious concentration and several curse words he ground out some solid runs and only 1 more cone 2 second penalty to take first place. Sean was followed by the Kurth clan with Jay taking 2nd at +10.720 and Kim picking up 3rd at +15.266.
The night event was an absolute gas of a good time. Also very disorienting. Rookie sensation Charlie Senft dominated the first heat (6 runs) of the night runs with Sean in second place by only 1.7 seconds. Due to running out of time the second heat only allowed 3 more runs but after the first 2 of the three Sean had squeezed by Charlie by 0.6 seconds with Charlie picking up a cone and Jay Kurth bring up third. With 1 run left and the top 3 positions separated by less than 2 seconds, the final run would determine who would take first place in SAWD in Iowa regions first ever night event. Charlie unfortunately took another cone penalty on his final run leaving the way clear for Sean to take the win with his fastest run of the night, followed by Jay +2.915, Charlie +1.079, and another relative newcomer Zak Herman taking 4th +1.536.
That's all the news I have for you today. I will try to keep you updated this weekend with how the national championship is going but please do not hold your breath. You may die.

Rusti is all loaded up and ready for this weekends triple event. Daylight races Saturday and Sunday and a night race Saturday. Should be a good test of all the recent repairs to her. New rear sub frame from coming down hard at allison and a new used transmission when second gear decided to take an unscheduled vacation at the September event. Here's hoping all holds up good this weekend for a strong showing at Nationals next weekend in Chillicothe Ohio. Unfortunately Greg will not be attending these events so Sean will be running solo.

Back in September 2020, Team RuSTi was at Butler County Speedway in Allison, IA. The speedway offers long courses with plenty of technical turns, crossovers, banking, and slaloms. We managed to get 4 runs apiece before the car began overheating uncontrollably. We retired for the day, but still thoroughly enjoyed the course. After this event, we finally solved our overheating issues, and would come back for more punishment in October at Cedar Falls.

After Heat 1, Sean is in 1st, Greg is in 3rd after destroying 4 cones at the finish line. Otherwise they've both put down strong times, and Greg is hopeful that Sean will knock several cones before the day is over 😁.

Greg took a hard-won 1st in class today at Allison speedway. Clean driving and highly competitive times made for a huge 12 second lead in Heat 1, a gap that co-driver Sean managed to close by only .5 second after Heat 2.
While Sean also put up equally fast times, a few cones throughout the day created an opportunity for Greg to take a rare 1st.
Overall, RuSTi managed to survive yet again (this is season 4!), and propel the RuSTi team into yet another 1st and 2nd. That's a successful day.

At our final 2020 event, Sean managed 1st in class and fastest overall for the day, an impressive feat! Greg took 2nd, as usual. We tried a new tire setup, and it seems to work well. Our 3-year-old numbers are also due for replacement 😁. The car has been reliable since we solved our overheating issue, and we're looking forward to more racing in January!
