Softball families,
I am conducting a softball pitching clinic again this winter at the CYA Fieldhouse in Chantilly, VA. Please pass this information on to all of the softball (house and travel team) families that may be interested. I have provided pitching clinics to CYA girls previously and look forward to doing it again this year.
Registration for the clinic is via the CYA website: www.chantillyyouth.org
Thanks
Dave Gould

Here is the information about the pitching clinic:
The CYA Babe Ruth league is hosting a softball pitching clinic at the CYA Fieldhouse. There will be 8 sessions from 6pm to 7pm on 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27 and 3/6. The sessions will be limited to 20 pitchers. Additional sessions will be opened as needed (e.g., 7-8pm).
South Lakes HS pitching coach Dave Gould will provide the instruction for the softball pitching clinic. Coach Gould also coached at Catholic University and Chantilly HS. Coach Gould has provided pitching camps/lessons for over 20 years. Coach Gould has over 50 years of experience playing fastpitch softball including experience playing/pitching in National and Regional Championship tournaments. Coach Gould was elected to both the Greater Washington Fastpitch Hall of Fame and the Washington DC Fastpitch Sunday League Hall of Fame.
The clinic is open to all players from age 8 to 18. The clinic will focus on the windmill style pitching mechanics and how to throw different pitches. Topics will include the arm motion, finger grips per pitch, footwork on the mound, drills to develop accuracy, and drills to increase pitch speed.
Advanced discussions include how to determine hitter weaknesses and pitching strategies. Players will be grouped by skill level (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced) and instructions will be tailored for each level.
Each pitcher needs to bring a catcher (e.g., parent, teammate), their glove, sneakers/turf shoes, and one or more balls. All participants including catchers must wear a mask. COVID-19 participation rules for the CYA Fieldhouse will be followed including social distancing. Waiver forms must be completed by all participants including catchers. No spectators are permitted.
Congratulations to the SYA Mets 11u Travel Baseball team for taking the NVTBL tournament this past weekend.
Dear Spring Registered Parents,

I understand how incredibly unfair it may feel right now that you will not be receiving a full refund for the Spring season but please know that SYA is an incredible organization that was probably forced to make a decision they know their parents will not be happy with. Unfortunately they don't have all the money to return to everyone that registered at this point. Field fees, administrative, office, etc. Try to remember that this is an unprecedented time in our Nations history. Although my son has grown out of SYA he played baseball for them house, travel and All Stars all through elementary school and what he received from the organization as a whole FAR EXCEEDED the registration fees I paid for him to participate each year. Remember the coaches that volunteer for nothing and often spend their own hard earned money to support the kids, the parents that volunteer to help with teams and snack shacks, the life lessons our children learn through sport and the many great friends we as parents make along the way because of this organization. I hope you'll reconsider your anger and realize that this one decision doesn't change all the incredible things this organization brings to our community.
What is SYA’s plan for COVID-19? Most sports organizations are cancelling practices until further notice.

Throughout the year and in our end of season surveys the topic of cancelations comes up a lot. We get it... when you've left work early, coordinated rides, invited friends and family to a game, planned your weekly meals around when your kids do, and do not have practice, getting a last minute "canceled" text, email or call is beyond frustrating.

And while we wish we could do something about the weather (like keep the weather we're having now,) we all know, we can't.

But there is more than weather that is out of SYA control, including the use of the facilities we have permits for. SYA advocates for our permits to be honored when a last-minute conflict threatens a cancelation, and when a cancelation is mandated by the facility, SYA commissioners, coaches, and volunteers work to communicate quickly.

We appreciate all that SYA families do to get their athletes to practices, games and other events.

Additional information about cancelations is online here: https://syasports.demosphere-secure.com/sya-blog/why-are-there-so-many-cancelations-during-the-season
