Sometimes the live production industry can truly take it all out of you. The key is having an escape, a hobby, something to take you away for a bit.

This year, for me, it’s become cooking. Roughly every week since Christmas I’ve tried making some new dish or side for the menu.

I’ve found it’s a way to continue a creative outlet plus a reprieve from the usual crafty that we’re all thankful for but can become a little rough.

My most recent creation was for the 4th, a wonderful shrimp roll. Among the other creations this year I’ve also added eggs Benedict, risotto (which definitely teaches patience), mushroom ragu over polenta with pork belly and oven roasted broccolini, scratch made lasagna, roasted pork belly ramen and finally focaccia as we foray in to baking.

What’s your get away when you’re not on site?

Add another sport to the list. Finally, I was able to take part in this year’s Battle on the Bricks () at TD Arena in downtown Charleston.

In the fourth annual installment, I made my way behind the 3Play to put together highlights between bouts, roll outs for the end of the broadcast and of course packages of the crazy TKOs we didn’t see coming.

All of this, plus an appearance by the Wu Tang Klan, it was a wild night four years in the making for me.

Next week voters go back to the ballot box to determine the final candidates for the role of South Carolina’s governor after a run off for both parties was announced.

As a result I made my way up to Conway, SC and the campus of Coastal Carolina to run A2 for a second GOP gubernatorial debate, this time between the final two candidates.

Come November South Carolina will elect a new governor, one way or another. It’s a humbling feeling knowing in some way, shape, or form I was a part of this process not once, but twice.

For the third year in a row I was asked to go up to Cary, NC and the USA Baseball Training Complex to produce the NCAA Division II Championships.

After three years there’s always a question of “How can we top last year?” when we incorporated drone footage in to opens and scenics.

This year we found a way to level up by adding on camera hits for talent. Something small but impactful toward the broadcast and the experience for fans on NCAA.com.

The quest begins to year four and growth in 2027.

Last week I had the distinct honor of being part in welcoming the next wave of leadership in to the nation when I directed the graduations from .

From the commissioning of officers, the movement of cadets, or the honoring of masters and other degrees I was behind the switcher in house and on the live stream.

Having the added bonus of knowing some grads from the beginning of their journey, it was a unique experience to be a small part of the conclusion of a defining era in their lives.

Class of 2026, go make the world a better place.

In freelancing, some weeks really take it out of you. Last week was a 60 hour week. Including directing multiple minor league baseball games, helping set and run a corporate event in downtown Charleston with a full 24 hours of work over two days, to running Cam 1 at the Charleston Battery (including last minute body swaps as rain had harmed the box lens).

The key to surviving such weeks is rest and recooperation. But with the freelance mindset that can be hard. What do you do to shut down after a week of go go go?

Two years ago, one of the saddest rain outs of my career. A full on Star Wars baseball broadcast loaded from open, to graphics, to bumpers. Yes, I have too much Star Wars stuff (including a tattoo). Yes, I was going to use it to my advantage. Then the heavens opened. Alas. Anyway, here’s what remains. May the 4th be with you all!

Aired across the state on Gray Media stations, six candidates shared their views of the future of South Carolina for the Republican nomination.

You really never know what you’ll end up working next in this business.

Work the last few nights was… well, bananas. Banana Ball came to Charleston and I was asked to run A2 for the Friday and Saturday tilts of the Coconuts vs. the Clowns.

Not only was it an incredibly enjoyable experience from every person I worked with, it was an incredible growth experience.

On the fly mic’d up players live in action, micing up the likes of Ryan Howard and Jackie Bradley Junior, and crash courses in RF frequency tuning let me advance my skills in a wholly unique environment.

And everyone, from Howard to Bradley Junior to Mo’Ne Davis and all crew, were beyond wonderful to work with and deal with. The smiles in Banana Ball aren’t just in the stands, they radiate behind the scenes as well.

While baseball purists may find the way the game is played questionable and not all may “get” it, a long weekend behind the scenes shows me why it works and will keep lasting.

You may even say, I found everything… appealing.

For the second year in a row I was invited to go CoCo and serve as Tennis Channel’s A2 for the Credit One Open here in Charleston.

As with last year, the tournament itself is exceptional. Amazing atmosphere, wonderful fan experience from top to bottom and a great draw.

Most importantly, the crew at Tennis Channel remain an absolute joy to be with. While a tight knit group, you never feel like an outsider and the care they take for everyone top to bottom is remarkable.

As long as I’m invited back, I’ll always be thrilled to be where the court meets the coast.
