As the regular season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible year it has been across our baseball and softball communities.

The Dickson Umpires Association is grateful for the opportunity to serve the schools, leagues, coaches, athletes, and fans who make this game so special. From Opening Day through the final regular season pitch, we have witnessed growth, competition, sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments on fields across our region.

Thank you to the schools and league leaders who trusted us to help steward the game. Thank you to the coaches for the countless hours you invest into developing young athletes. Thank you to the players for your effort, passion, and resilience throughout the season. And thank you to the parents and spectators who continue to support these athletes and communities.

As we now transition into postseason and tournament play, our umpiring crews remain committed to serving the game with professionalism, integrity, and respect. We are honored to continue supporting the athletes and programs competing for championships in the weeks ahead.

Good luck to all teams entering postseason play — and thank you again for a tremendous season. ⚾🥎

We are so PROUD to have some amazing umpires in our association that are committed to the development of the next generation of umpires in our area. We look forward to having some of these young umpires join us for the next Spring season!

⚾️🥎 Last Week - 11 of our umpires were able to connect with MLB Umpire and current President of UMPS CARE Charities, DJ Reyburn, to learn about career opportunities in sports officiating. ⚾️🥎

Our young umpires learned about plate stance, strike zone, fair/foul, and discussed some play scenarios that they have already seen this spring season. DJ shared many pearls of wisdom that he has learned through 20 years of umpiring, but our umpires left with great enthusiasm and understanding that their role as an umpire is more than a job — it’s a commitment to the game, the development of our athletes, and setting the tone for the ballpark culture that we want and expect for our community.

THIS FALL 🍂 — UMPS CARE Charities will be bringing their Official Leadership Program to Fairview, TN! Over 6-weeks, more than 20 of our community’s youth will navigate basic umpiring mechanics while learning life skills such as goal setting, financial literacy, and grit. This program will not only have seasoned umpires from professional baseball teaching umpire mechanics, but leaders from Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) and veterans from the special operations community of Fort Campbell, KY. Across the country, youth sports leagues are facing a growing challenge: a shortage of umpires. Fewer officials means more pressure on the ones who step up—and it also threatens the ability for young athletes to simply play the games they love.

Here in Fairview, we decided to do something about it.

This spring, 17 young leaders from our community have joined our Blue Brigade, a program designed to train the next generation of baseball and softball umpires. Over the next few weeks, these athletes will be learning the rules of the game, mechanics, positioning, and—most importantly—how to manage a game with confidence, integrity, and respect.

Being an umpire isn’t just about calling balls and strikes. It’s about:
⚾ Learning leadership
⚾ Developing confidence under pressure
⚾ Serving the community
⚾ Protecting the integrity of the game

This season, you’ll see these Blue Brigade umpires stepping onto the fields at Fairview Ballpark helping make sure games are played the right way. They’re not just filling a need—they’re building a workforce, learning life skills, and giving back to the very sport that helped raise them.

When you see one of our young umpires behind the plate or on the bases this spring, give them a little encouragement. They’re stepping up in a big way for our community.

The future of officiating in Fairview is looking bright.

⚾ More Than Just Calling Balls and Strikes 🥎

When people think about umpires, they often think about the calls — safe or out, ball or strike. But what many people don’t always see is the impact umpires have on youth sports in our community.

Every game you watch at the ballpark is made possible because someone stepped forward to serve the game.

Umpires give their time, energy, and passion to help create a fair and structured environment where young athletes can compete, learn, and grow. They role model key attributes such as accountability, sportsmanship, and respect for the game — lessons that last far beyond the final score.

Behind every close play and every tough call is someone who cares deeply about the integrity of the game and the experience the kids are having on the field.

Our umpires are mentors, role models, and stewards of the game. Many of them grew up playing right here in our community and now give back so the next generation has the same opportunity to fall in love with baseball and softball.

Youth sports simply would not be possible without them -- and they essential to the game.

So the next time you see an umpire working hard behind the plate or out on the bases, remember — they’re not just officiating a game. They’re investing in the future of your children and our community.
