Fun is FUN when creating new ideas for Wicked Problems!

The CSUN Spring MSE 602 class was able to explore solving the “Mystery of the Soggy Pizza Box” using Pre-Idea, Ideation and Post-Idea thinking methods in a 2-night workshop. The results were dramatic and new ideas were created for a “Bake-as-you-go” delivery vehicle, Super Targeted Drone Delivery and a complete rethinking of the idea of a pizza into a cold sandwich that never gets soggy.

It is always amazing how creative and innovative the solutions and ideas are to this workshop. Watching the teams develop, grow and excel over time makes me realize how important a "Process" is for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Congratulations to the 2017 Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar's Ambassadors! We at the Rocky Peak Leadership Center are proud to be a part of teaching not what to think, but how to think.

For the 16th year in a row, I had the opportunity to provide a pre-conference workshop for the 2017 In2In Thinking Network. This year we re-ran the Mystery of the Soggy Pizza Box for the attendees. Even with Apple and Google announcing their solutions to this problem this year, our participants were able to successfully come up with many new and unique ideas.

After navigating the Background Information, Pre-Idea Thinking, Ideation, and Post-Idea Thinking step the teams were able to identify ideas based specifically on one of four different innovation strategies.

A great new idea surfaced for a mobile Pizza store, which moves to a location with a high customer concentration, and cooks the pizza for delivery with a fleet of motorcycle delivery representatives.

A second set of team ideas came from 3D printing the pizza with the addition of fresh ingredients that are supplied by the pizza store and delivered when they run low to stock the machine. You would get the best of fresh and designed ingredients on demand, ready for cooking in the house.

Once again the focus of systems thinking provides new opportunities for entrepreneurial innovation success.

On Friday I was able to attend the 2017 Senior Project Design Showcase at CSUN, and take part as a judge on an interview panel. I had a great time looking at many exciting new innovations, like the folding electric bike, the robotic arm, and the garden bot. After seeing these incredible student senior designs, I know without a doubt the future of innovation is going to be fantastic.
