Pride on the Pitch LGBTQ+ Soccer Tournament June 20, 2020
Thanks to all the volunteers who made this year's Pride on the Pitch possible! We would not have raised $1,849 for the Center on Halsted or been able to run a successful tournament without their help.

Special thanks to the Detroit Drive Soccer Club for attending Pride on the Pitch for the fourth year in a row! Formed in 2013 by Shawn K. Conner, among others, the Detroit Drive Soccer Club provides the most out-of-state players to the Pride on the Pitch tournament every year.
Without their support, Pride on the Pitch does not occur. Without their support, Pride on the Pitch would not have collectively raised $1,849 for the Center on Halsted.
When interviewed in August 2018 for Michigan's Between The Lines Newspaper, Conner could be said to have summed up the true nature of why LGBTQ+ tournaments like Pride on the Pitch exist:
"Organized gay sports leagues are a powerful statement that we are not ashamed of who we are. In fact, we embrace who we are as gay athletes. Many of our players are young and recently out. Some have gone through great sacrifice and have lost their families and their friends. I’ve had players who have later told me that they were on the verge of su***de, but joining our soccer club made all the difference for them. It has been such a positive experience for everyone involved that I would always recommend an organized gay sport to anyone.”
Team-WERK: G**s Bond Over Scoring Goals in the Detroit Drive Soccer League Considering the number of LGBTQ athletes who have taken center stage in the last five years — Caitlin Jenner, footballer Michael Sam, ice skater Adam Rippon and freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, to name a few — the stereotype that gay people are not interested in sports is practically obsolete. Special thanks to The New York Ramblers for attending Pride on the Pitch for the third year in a row!
In 1980, an ad was placed in the Village Voice looking for gay men interested in playing soccer in an area of Central Park known as the Ramble. After that meetup, the group who showed up eventually formed the New York Ramblers, the world's first openly gay soccer club.
Today, The New York Ramblers are at the forefront of what is considered an LGBTQ+ soccer club which gives back to their community. In many ways, the inspiration toward creating a charitable tournament comes from the Ramblers own efforts to establish a scholarship fund for publicly LGBTQ+ student-athletes. The Ramblers care enough about their efforts that they even gave money to a student-athlete in Boston. ;)

New York Ramblers Soccer Established in 2016, the Ramblers Scholarship supports student athletes pursuing an undergraduate education who self-identify publicly as le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, or intersex (LGBTQI), or as demonstrated and committed straight allies. Awardees will receive a one-time scholarship,....

Special thanks to Minnesota Gray Ducks Soccer for attending our tournament for this year!
The Gray Ducks are also the originators of the North American Gay Soccer Association (https://www.uslgbtsoccer.org) who were critical in helping Pride on the Pitch procure a template we used to ensure players from outside the country were able to attend our tournament.
CMSA Soccér! looks forward to supporting our neighbor's efforts moving forward!
