Catch Contemporary Play this Friday subbed by Ash Stevens. Class is 11:45am-1:15pm at our weekday location Definition Dance Academy.
We will begin with activating our isolations, grooves, and stretches for our warm up. Then create a communal phrase together. After the creation of the phrase we will take it apart with more improv games until class is over.

PARKING UPDATE: Construction has concluded. The parking lot at The Chicago Academy for the Arts is OPEN and available for use again.

This July & August, catch Contemporary with sub Lindsey Scouten on Fridays, 11:45am-1:15pm. Class is at our summer location The Chicago Academy for the Arts thru Aug. 14th*
Class will begin with a led warm-up, rooted in sensations, pleasure, and building heat - ending with a combination for artists to explore their limits and endless capabilities. This class is meant for the artist looking for an open space to research and connect to their authentic movement, balanced with technicality through guided modalities.
More about Lindsey:
Lindsey Scouten (she/her) is a movement artist, choreographer, and educator based in Chicago and New York City. Lindsey has performed with companies such as the Lyric Opera of Chicago; Merce Cunningham Trust (inaugural resident company at the REACH, John F. Kennedy Center); Visceral Dance Chicago; and PURUS MOTUS – among many others. Some of her most notable performances include works by Andrea Miller, Noelle Kayser, Katie Carey, Osnel Delgado, and Gianna Burright. Additionally, Lindsey was formerly a company artist & choreographer for Hot Crowd for 5 years – where she also served as Rehearsal Director and Artistic Development Associate. As a freelance performer, Lindsey has had the opportunity to share her art across the country and internationally in places such as Puerto Rico and Seoul. She was named a finalist for dance and choreography in Chicago Reader’s Best Of 2024. Lindsey received her degree in dance at George Mason University, where she worked with world-renowned choreographers Doug Varone & Nacho Duato. During her freshman year she was awarded the Emerging Artist Award with scholarship.

Jaina Alexander (she/her) is a singer, actor, educator, and dog mom. A multi-genre artist, Jaina has sung with theatres, opera companies, and choirs all around the Midwest, at award-winning cabaret and jazz clubs, and with The Rolling Stones. Her work as an educator focuses on vocal confidence and flexibility to allow for bold and brave artistic choices. Select projects include: The Secret Garden (Lily, Guest Artist Residency with Cloud County Community College & Manchester Theatres), Chicago Premiere of Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line To Freedom (Ensemble, South Shore Opera Company), and The Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin (Chorus, a multimedia benefit for Holocaust survivors with The Defiant Requiem Foundation). She is also a proud member of Estill Voice (EMT-C), MICHA, VASTA, and the Feldenkrais Guild of North America.
