Meet the All-New Crux 5

Some rides don’t wait for the start line. 🚴‍♂️

Rob () couldn’t make this year’s Mishigami Challenge so he went out and did it on his own terms.

For those who don’t know, the Mishigami is a self‑supported ultra cycling race that circumnavigates Lake Michigan, covering massive distances with no aid stations, no support, and no shortcuts. Riders manage everything themselves, food, sleep, navigation all the way back to Chicago.

Rob took on the Mini‑Gami route solo.
9 PM Friday rollout.
A little sleep on the ferry.
Then straight through to the finish.

All of it on a $100 1980s single speed from Marketplace (with flats).

No perfect setup. No excuses. Just a rider proving that big efforts don’t require big budgets just the willingness to start and the drive to keep going.

Huge respect to Rob for bringing the Mishigami spirit to life and finishing his ride back at the shop. 💙

Last month, we hosted an incredible evening with ultracycling legends Jack Peck, Phil Fox, and Sarah Rice. Guests got a full introduction to randonneuring and ultra cycling, from choosing your first long goal to training, gear, and fueling strategies for rides that go beyond the ordinary.

With stories, clips, and expert tips, the panelists inspired everyone to push their limits and discover what “going long” really means. The session wrapped with a lively Q&A and actionable next steps for anyone ready to start their own ultra journey.
